Stephen Ireland

I dont get it at all with Stevie Ireland this season. Is it purely physical injury or something else.He is still brilliant on the ball and my favourite city player but he looks like he's just not got the same energy/engine that he demonstrated last year.Almost like he's ill (like ME),listless rather than carrying a physical injury.

I was at a function recently attended by two of City's first team who both singled him out as the most skillful player we had.One (a fellow academy player) said that when they play small matches he 'prays he gets the same colour bib as Ireland' and,he virtually won the youth cup for them(think it was this trophy?) singlehandedly.

Whatever this lad's problem,City should not think about selling him.He needs looking after and showing the same loyalty that he has given us on and off the field.

If he goes it will come back to haunt us.Should he end up at say Arsenal or ManUre,and become as I believe he will the next Paul Scholes we will be gutted.

The new money is great,we need it to compete at this level, but Ireland at his best can grace any team and represents what this great club is all about both now and prior to the Sheikh's investment!
Viera gets away with it, he never got above a stroll on Saturday.

I think the moral of the story here is 'relax and let it happen'.

We're heading onwards and upwards, with or without Stevie, with or without SWP et al. Just enjoy the ride.

Viera aint nothing like ireland. When we learn how to use/play Viera, you will see the real deal.On saturday he wasnt used right by mancini and seems to be an easy target for our fans.Get off his back,he is world class and we are not, NOT YET ANYWAY!!!!!! as for ireland,he has got a lot of work/catching up 2 do

My favourite player 'Superman' but that does not count, it is players who fit into the managers style of play and plans that matter, so if Mancini says NO he has to go.

Ireland is our most forward minded central midfielder at the club and with a european competition to play next season we need these types of players to break down teams. Barry , De Jong and Vieria if he is still at the club wont be able to that part of the job. Lets be honest none of our midfielders have had a good season. De Jong has been inconsitance and Barry has been a mix of shit were he cant pass the ball to middling to amazing for most of this season. He would have 1 good game and go missing for the next couple of games. He is the more experienced of the 3 midfielders and I cant see him staying at the club if he has another season like this next season.
Roberto was a attacking player and it amazes me his style of play compared to how he played as a footballer. Willing to play 3 defensive midfielders in a 5 man midfield no wonder our strikers dont get much service with the players he chooses to play in the formation.

Funny you should say that because at the minute he's not going in that direction. He plays just behind a striker when he does play. I'd like to see him implemented in a deeper role, it'd have to be in a 4-5-1 like Scholes in United's side, but if he dropped behind Barry and Vieira to pick up the ball from the defence and start spraying passes around we'd have the link between attack and midfield we've often been missing.

The only problem is this would mean dropping Ade or Tevez. Ideally we'd have a better player than Vieira as well in the midfield. If we had Ireland, Barry and a fit Michael Johnson that'd be great.
