Sterling’s contract - three year extension confirmed

I think in terms of influence on the team and the games this season, anyone would rate them as following:

1) Sterling = Kevin = David
2) Sane
3) Jesus

Jesus cannot complain about sterling contract as the difference between the influence is currently like day and light. I like Jesus but he is not making key contributions. And as good as Sane is, he is a year behind sterling in development and consistency.
Agree with all that. I think Sterling has played his way into a situation where he is justified to expect to match the higher earners. Throw in his age, potential and that he could potentially run down his contract, I think giving him broadly what he's asking for is the way forward for the club.

He's definitely the most improved and he's easily becoming one of the most important players. The stats back his influence up, but giving him a new contract on the same terms as KdB would set a dangerous precedent - don't forget we're negotiating with Sane at the moment and Jesus has signed a new deal recently, and as good as those players are, as soon as you give Sterling a bumper deal, it'll upset the balance with them.
I don't think it sets a dangerous precedent at all, if anything it says to the players like Sane and Jesus that if you reach a consistent level of performance where you produce week in week out, goals, assists, incredible work rate, then you will be rewarded. I don't care what people say about his finishing, Sterling is without doubt one of our most important players now and that should be reflected in the contract we offer him.

Whether he accepts that, i have no idea.

I'd have him under KDB but not massively under. What many are suggesting though is it potentially upsetting the balance. I am of the opinion now that he should be on more than Sane but with your logic he could bring his age and potential into the mix. Many might think one incredible season could see them demanding the same. City have done so well to get to this point where the wages aren't daft and we will happily tell people like Sanchez where to go. Hopefully we get it agreed where everyone ends up happy.

He’s improved a lot and I’ve been a fan of Raz since he joined but tbh he doesn’t look anything like a £300k per week player YET. So I fully understand why the club are hesitating to give him what he wants.

Here’s the goals from last season:

I counted 9 tap ins which confirms my belief that he is so much better due to the players around him and the system. Ok he has to get into those positions to score the easy tap in but most of the goals were signature City moves. A break then one winger assists the other for a tap in.

We need to see more of the Soton match winner type goals from Raz imo. Right now if he goes to another team he would struggle to replicate his City form because the main factor of his form is the team itself and Pep. This is why I don’t believe Real are in for him and it’s just paper talk from his agent.

Not convinced any club would pay him £300k a week and City know this so are holding their position. I think the club’s negotiating position is very strong and the player has a lot more to lose than the club. We have Mahrez and would get a great fee for Raz in January and in the summer. He’s replaceable imo.

To summarize, I’m not worried at all about his contract situation. I think he’ll probably sign but it’ll be at the club’s terms because the team plays to his strength and has Pep. I honestly don’t see Real and Barca seriously coming in for him. PSG play in a farmer’s league and Bayern won’t pay his wages or fee. So he’ll sign by January most likely or he’ll be put on the market.

Not sure about Barca but I genuinely think Real would come in for him. He's been consistently good in Europe even a few years ago when he was arguably a little below par for us in the league. Added to that, I assume he is rated much more highly abroad where there isn't the drip feed of media negativity, I suspect he would be much more in demand abroad than people tend to think. Although obviously the pool of clubs that can meet his wage demands is relatively small.

Think that's a pretty fair assessment tbh.

Raheem's instagram story today is

"But the improvement in his game in the last 12 months is down to coaching... The disrespect for GNev"

What's goen on?

It's because Neville said this:

"Look at Raheem Sterling, who I don't think has (Anthony) Martial's talent, and his transformation over the last 12 months and why he is scoring 18, 20 goals a season. That's the coaching Pep Guardiola has put into him."

They way I look at it is who would we miss the most if they weren't playing and the answers would vary amongst fans. For me, the person we would miss the most for any length of time is not even on your list

Good post mate. And yes, a fair assessment imo.
