Peter Spencer, MEN Sports Editor, also suggesting Jovetic on his way.

But he thinks it's Jovetic instead of Negredo i.e one signing not two

And if, as is likely, the 23-year-old striker signs for Manuel Pellegrini it will end the guessing game over who will join Sergio Aguero and Edin Dzeko on the Blues’ striker roster for the new season.

Pellegrini has cast his eyes over Sevilla’s Alvaro Negredo, Oscar Cardoza at Benfica, Osvaldo at Roma and even Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Paris St Germain but all signs are that it will be Fiorentina star Jovetic who will be penning a £100,000 a week plus deal.

The rag Spencer would say that, he'd be mortified if City signed two more decent players!

Since leaving Manchester in 1988, when IIRC, the rag correspondent was David Meek, and the Blues counterpart was Peter Gardner, I haven't really kept in touch with the MEN.

However, yesterday, listening to Talks**** and the lamentable Neil Ashton and his equally lamentable programme called 'Transfer Tavern' he interviewed Pater Spencer and unless I misheard it on the car radio above the traffic noise, I thought I heard NA introduce Spencer as the MEN Sports Editor.

He was asked about Rooney (yawn) and one or two other things. For a Sports Editor, he didn't sound particularly articulate. Stuttering his way through the interview, I got the firm impression that he struggled to string sentences together in his attempt to answer bog standard questions. very surprising.

I didn't hear the interview, but I've always thought of him as competent. He is after all a journalist, not a broadcaster.

Peter Spencer would argue that when City were on the ropes in the 3rd Division, the MEN could have dropped us, but they continued to give City and Utd equal coverage.

They no longer have the inside track on City with the club employing their own PR people, but at least they are not openly hostile.

I would trust the MEN above most media outlets, because I don't think they have an agenda and it's in their interests to have a good relationship with the club. They also will normally have a journalist closely following the club, and Chris Bailey used to work for them
