I think the impact last season had on him has mentally finished him off.
Winning the league would have cemented his place as Liverpool's greatest ever player. It also would have justified his decision to reject Chelsea all them years ago. He would have won every competition possible with his local club including being the PL and CL winning skipper.
The way they bottled the league will always be hilarious. Not only that but his famous slip is the highlight reel and he is almost unfairly associated as the reason why they did not win the league. No one will talk about how Rodgers had a tactical brainfart and got comfortably beat of a third string Chelsea 11. It will on be on the shoulders of their once great captain.
Now he knows that the club he has captained all these years are better off without him. The club who has needed him more than anything and also depended on him no longer want him.
At the back of his mind he must have a slight regret about staying. Just look at the success Chelsea have had compared to Liverpool and add that he could have also tested himself abroad at the likes of Madrid. He could have had a trophy haul to match Zidane and Henry but instead he will be remembered in the manner of Alan Shearer as a great player who lacked the bottle to join the greats.

Erm awkward, I was referring to yours. You seem to think that being england captain automatically makes you a good player. He is finished as a top pl player and his set piece delivery is the only attribute that bails him out.
That puts us at the fore front then for his set piece's alone, because we've got no one who can take a corner.
Maybe in recent memory due to the fact that anything before Sky seems to have been airbrushed from history. I'd suggest Dalgleish was easily, very easily, a better player than Gerrard. There are probably more, but I'm not a Liverpool fan (Sourness and Rush must be up there as well).city91 said:Prestwich_Blue said:Unlike Lampard, I don't think the desire is there anymore with Gerrard.
