Stewart Lee on UKIP

Utter genius.
Even better live.

Don't even care about his political views today or any other day.

Stewart Lee is the finest living stand up in the world. I'm not talking about him in terms of laughs generated per person but in terms of the craft and art, nobody can even approach him.

The best way anybody ever described him was that he was so funny that he didn't need to be funny

The irony of his self promoting tolerant crap whilst vehemently being verbal to another political subset makes me want to throw him in a gulag.

Chubby Brown is funnier but will never be a media darling.

We'll anyone who finds Royston Vasey funny isn't going to laugh with Stewart Lee, but you'll be part of his material!

I have attended and enjoyed shows by both Chubby and Lee. In fact, I love Chubby and on a technical level the guy is extremely talented outside of his laugh out loud humour.

They are the exact opposite ends of the spectrum in the way they try to generate laughs though, but this doesn't mean either are crap.

Yet more generalisations.

Of course people can find them both funny in their own right.

If you're just looking at comedy through the political lense then you're doing it wrong ;-)

Must be a luvvy luvvy type thing.

Lee is the David Silva of comedy.

Many will choose Yaya as the most impactful player, akin to a Chubby Brown.

Others will choose Kompany, the person with the widest mainstream appeal that is obviously "good" at what they do like a Michael McIntyre.

Stewart Lee is David Silva. He is so fucking good that you have to understand the game he's playing to realise why he is so fucking good, but once you see the majesty of it, it will leave a lifelong impression that nobody can match. Others who aren't into stand up will find him pretentious or arrogant simply because he performs meta-comedy rather than straight up comedy and much of his routine is poking fun at the non-meta comics.

Trust me though, the more you more stand up you watch and examine as an entertainment medium the more Stewart Lee become increasingly hilarious. You have to sort of read between the lines to find references that you don't really favour unless you watch a lot of stand up.

He is really brilliant, and I don't use that word lightly.

Because you've recommended it and to prove i'm not a closed minded philistine i'll stea....borr...buy a copy of one of his shows and get back to you and give you my genuine opinion.

You have to realise that his comedy is based on taking the piss out of comedy. It's weird and you have to persevere a bit but once it clicks he's unmatched in my opinion.
