Still need another centre back in Jan

Hummels nothing special against Arsenal tonight, caught out more than once. If we have to spend 20m+ on a defender, I'd try and get Thiago Silva first and foremost.
this! and only this

This is why Mancini tried to play Kolo against Bayern Munich.

I'm afraid to say but Lescott is just not good enough for where we want to go.

Don't get me wrong, he's good in the premiership but doesn't cut it in the CL.

Vinny wasn't good tonight either, should we get rid of him? Lescott has been solid this season. That being said, we do need another CB to increase competition for places and Kolo isn't good enough.

I think we have one or two players that lack experience at playing at the very highest level of club football. Joe Hart is also one who will make mistakes at that level, but hopefully in a couple of seasons all our squad will become Champions League savvy, we'll reduce the mistakes dramatically, and who knows what might happen. Last night I put down to naivety, and just not being clued up enough. The boys will bounce back, what odds on City to beat Bayern and Napoli also not to beat Villareal. It's not over until the fat lady sings or so they say!

Agreed mate, it will come with time. The signs are there that this team will be something very very special in a few years and we're already seeing glimpses of it.

Back to CB's though, besides Thiago Silva is there any other world class CB we could possibly pick up? It just doesn't seem like that many even exist in world football. Vertonghen is the only one that comes to mind that might be available.

exactly, this is our first run in the champions league, the spine of the team hasnt had much experiance playing in it if any, once they figure it out well be on to a winner.
And i really dont get the hype over vertonghen, i dont see what hes done to be called world class and be considered in the same light as thiago silva etc...
Players that spring to mind- Pepe, Lucio, Alex (chelsea), Marchena, Chellini and on the younger side Rami (reminds me alot of lucio, and in a squad like ours would only improve), Lovren (not of a world class level yet, but has CL experiance and has the potential to become one of the best), Sakho, Raul albiol, Subotic.... thats all i can think of at the min if i think of any more ill add em

From what I've seen Vertonghen reads the game really well, is strong in the air and is very comfortable on the ball with the ability to make solid passes. I haven't seen a lot of him admittedly but he seems like a great player.

Chivu on a free for a couple of years - that'd sort it whilst we loan out Boyata & Savic to PL or foreign premier league teams to see if they can really make the grade.

No need to spend cash
