Stoke post match thread

Come on, that doesn't count! He was MOTM.

Wasn't offside. Add it to our it-equals-out-over-the season list.
Watch 7:28...

Whatever. It was a sitter and he should have buried it. No need to kick at it like he did, just deflect it. I thought at the time Sergio had got in his way ,but no.

Seventy seven pages on this thread, I don't believe it. We're third, people, third, level on points with second, in the FA cup the last time I looked, and still in the CL, last time I looked. When we're out of the Cup, out of the Champions League, and out of top four, maybe, just maybe, start calling the most successful manager in the world a clown (in fact, no, don't, under any circumstances). He's doing a long term building job that has desperately needed doing for the past two seasons. We dropped two points to Stoke. That kind of thing will happen, from time to time. It's called shit happening, and did I mention that with that (and yes with Boro, and Everton, and Southampton), we're still third, so we (and Guardiola) must have doing something right at some point. We move on - bring on Boro and the Cup.

good post. theres some right moaning fckers on here nowadays. they've lost all sense of reality it seems. 2nd in the league, but you'd think wed just been relegated going off some on here.

if wed have won this thread would have half the posts xD

The worst thing about last night was it was preventable. Just what is Guardiola thinking when assumes that playing a weakened team against a side coming for a draw is going to work! If anything it gives them initial hope they can last 90 minutes without conceding, and then as the game progresses it cements that hope into absolute belief.

In short, squad rotation (weakening your team in a calculated gamble) doesn't work. Play your best team all the time.

On pitches like ploughed fields, Forest won the League over a 42 game season using just 14 players. It was the days of little protection for players.

Our squad change gamble last night was about appeasing squad players who seldom play rather than servicing any supposed tiredness in those rested.

If I thought we'd learn from it then I'd be philosophical and accept it as a case of Pep not understanding Stoke City's ideology and Mark Hughes' dogged determination to get at City, however I'm not convinced.

Whtas the point of having a squad then ? what we had out last night was more then good enough to win.

That's a big 'IF' hateutd.

Can we beat ALL the teams left in the FAC in a one off game, including 2 at Wembers,if we get through agin Smoggies ?

Spuds & Renters have already beat us.......much to do.
I just Hope...what else to do with CITY.....last 35 (sometimes bitter) years

so Thursday then :)

Not really, unfortunately it is important to score and that requires that the chances to score (shots) need accuracy so our miserable 1 out of 12 shots on target indicates we had many chances but cannot shoot straight.

Gutted by everything last night. From our season ticket seats in the North Stand, loads of us were cringing at the empty seats. I for one felt embarrassed - knowing that I'd get some stick at work today. Doesn't help that the tv cameras face the Colin Bell stand where the VIP seats are........ I'll be honest with you, and it's painful stuff, Pep probably didn't imagine that we'd have so many empty seats. Probably best to put further expansion on hold. Is it something to do with the configuration of our stands - too much space between the seats ? In some grounds you barely notice when fans don't turn up. For example, at Anfield the seats are so close together you don't notice when half a row is missing. I honestly believed that the Pep factor would bridge the fan gap - to say nothing of the superb attack he's building (with the exception of last night - we were leggy and knackered). No club gets great crowds in the cup, but for a crucial league game that could have given us some momentum with tough games coming up I couldn't believe it - even for a Wednesday night. We'll fill the ground for the next more standard time kick off, but for these evening games I find myself looking across at the other three stands hoping the fans are socialising in the ground or at the bars or that there's some traffic chaos outside and the seats will be filled half an hour in.
