Stoke post match thread

Cant play without Silva . Looked flat as fuck , ALL of em . worst show of the season. Should play the best team, THEN take who you want off if we can get a couple of goals.Ithought last nights game would be harder than in the cup on sat, so would have played my best team.

Three big bonuses-
A clean sheet
Six points into the top 4
Resting Sterling/Silva suggests that we're going full strength at Boro.

We're really starting to get Pep's style. Next season, when we have four or five more players, we will be much closer to where we need to be. By the third season we'll be easily the best in England.

Totally agree and well said.

disappointing result and a rather lacklustre performance from the lads last night. Stoke did their job well to be fair. Terrible game to watch though.

Hopefully beat the Boro on Saturday and we will all feel 1000 times better again.

Same as many times before . Select understrenght team and fail. Been down this road many times before. Sagna and clichy offer nothing in an attacking sense so why play them agains bus parkers? Kdb has proved that he doesn't belong in the silva role, woeful there. Fern and yaya in the wrong positions to boot. If pep is going to get the plaudits when we play well then in the interest of fairness he should get he critism when we don't, especially when his team selection has been a contributory factor. Silva central and zab right, kolorov left ,stones parterning otamendi would have sufficed.

a positive post for once on here ;)

Except, you never give Pep any plaudits at all.

Never in doubt to be fair.

Meanwhile, going back further, even when we were winning you found plenty of reasons to moan about Pep.

For example;

Bournemouth Post Match
Really important win. Played well and a clean sheet. Peps stubburness over bravo certainly been shown to have been ill advised.

Swansea Post Match
Huge goal that but why can pep not see whats coming and make his subs earlier. Stones nowhere near the defender he's made out to be. Sterling shoud have been hooked long before he was. Peps indifference to defending will continue to haunt us.

West Ham Post Match
Much more like it. Can't beat a bit of pace in a side. Don't want to see that other clown in goal again. Willy whilst not the greatest keeper is far better than him. Pity pep took so long to see it. Should be able to put a decent run together now. Not over yet.

Oh and of course who could forget this gem from the Everton Post Match
Pep has not improved the team one bit. You could argue he has made it worse with the goalkeeping fiasco. If the team were looking for inspiration yesterday, they were certainly getting none from the bench, sat with his head staring down at the ground. 1 subsitiution in a game where we were struggling? I dont give a flying fuck what he achieved for Barca or bayern(he never equalled the old man he replaced theres achievements either) its what he does for city that matters and on the evidence so far that amounts to sweet fuck all.

So it seems that while City can win, Pep certainly can't. Oh but do tell me how not playing the players Pep improved from last season in the game last night was the reason we couldn't beat Stoke.

Almost 1/3 (30.7%) of City's goals this season have been scored by U23 players (Sterling x9, Iheanacho x7, Sané x6, Jesus x3, Stones x2, García x1), with 28 goals between them.

Had a bit of time on your hands this morning Akiva?

Not having to mark Navas helped Stoke.
If he did get it, he doesn't turn inside as Sterling might, and his crosses were high in the area. It meant they could crowd other players, which they then did, and did it very well.

A frustrating night but looking at the fixtures realistically catching Chelsea was always going to be a tall order.

Easy to blame the manager but the side was more than strong enough to win this game. Sadly a number of players fell below there best all on the same evening.

Blame cannot be pinpointed to any individual though as it was a team failure tonight.

Blaming Clichy for our failings going forward is completely unfair as clearly the more creative players have also failed that were asking questions of his attacking play.

We have been on a good run, played some great football and as bad as tonight was we still only drew the game. Since the Everton game that is still an excellent set of results.

Onwards and upwards and a real focus on the cups where our most realistic chance of collecting trophies are.

Trophy. There is no way we will win the CL. If we get through all of the 4 teams qualified so far would beat us easily. The FA Cup is our only man this year and that won't be easy.
Big worry for next season is our poor results at home call it what you want "the parked bus theory" lack of consistency or complacency but during our league winning seasons we were imperious at home and we have to get back to that level to seriously challenge for the title.

It was a dull and lacklustre performance. It would normally have been an acceptable blip for a team in such a good run of form. Unfortunately given we needed to win every single game left to have a remote chance of winning the league, the disappointment feels that little bit more heightened. The damage wasn't done last night though, it was done months ago. That combined with Chelsea's amazing consistency has meant it just isn't going to be our year.

So yeah, i'm a bit miffed but you have to accept nights like last night. My real frustration is more a result of all of the points we threw away earlier the season. On the plus side we've seen some glimpses over the past few weeks of what we're trying to build. Our front three looks set to terrify defences for years to come and surely our defensive deficiencies will be addressed this summer. The future looks hopeful but i must admit, i'm dying for us to win another league title!

Onwards and Upwards, shit night but try and consolodate top 3 now, try to win the FA Cup and who knows in the Champions League, seems to suit us that comp this season.

Could still be a fruitful campaign. Need to lay a marker against Boro!

compare how Bobby manc had us performing at home to how we are doing now and you get an idea of what is expected. Of course you will counter with Bobbys european record. I have nothing against pep at all, what i dont understand is the fawning over him when he has made plenty of mistakes, avoidable ones at that. Hopefully he starts to learn from these mistakes because if he doesn't then expect more Stokes, middlesboros etc. Wouldn't be much of a forum if everyone agreed with everyone.

Woke up weirdly optimistic. This was a blip but we're going to be world-beaters one day so we might as well enjoy the flight.
I feel the same this morning, suprisingly optimistic. I can see Peps style really coming through over these last few months and the best teams in the world have blips. We all know there will be players leaving in the summer and more depth added so whilst we have a few key injuries and such a reliance on certain players we will get these kind of rsults.

We have a FA Cup QF on sat and hopefully followed by a trip to Wembley. We have an incredible CL last 16 game on Weds to look forward to and then 3 top draw PL games. We may be out of the title race now(not sure we were ever truely in it), but hell, what a few weeks of football we have coming up.

We've seen these games before and we'll see them again. Football isn't an exact science and sometimes it just doesn't happen over the 90 minutes.
That team was more than good enough to get a result last night. We huffed and puffed but it didn't happen.
There's always a rush on here to try and blame an individual when the reality is it's a collective thing that was our undoing.
Hindsight really is a wonderful thing. I appreciate there are posters who will argue that they knew we'd struggle when they saw the team sheet but I don't buy it.
The truth is we just need to consolidate our place in the top 4 (which I've no doubts we will) and give it our all in the two cup comps then watch the team take shape in the Summer.
It's the best time ever to be a blue right now and we've plenty to look forward to. Getting too hung up on a poor performance on a Wednesday night against Stoke is a waste of time and energy.

Some over-the-top negative comments on here, as I had anticipated. Of course it's disappointing to be drawing at home against Stoke, of course it's unacceptable. But absolutely everybody except Chelsea has been getting these kinds of results. That's why Chelsea will be champions. This year, at least.
If Kelechi puts that ball in the net – and frankly it was easier to score than to miss – everything would look a bit different this morning. All last night confirmed, as far as I was concerned, was how very brilliantly Raheem and Merlin have been playing during the recent run, and how integral they have been to that run. Also, more worryingly, that KDB is probably in his poorest period since putting on a City shirt. Sergio was busy, and chipped away at the paint on the parked bus, without anything quite coming off for him. Same for Sané. On to Middlesbrough.

Thought we were extremely poor for the first hour and only marginally better after that. You'd have thought we'd had enough fuck ups at home over the last couple of years to realise that we can't just stroll through games and assume we will win.

I was so angry after that game. One of the first quotes I heard from Pep was " I am here to learn" is there any reason he hasn't learnt that 80% of the teams coming to our place will sit back and defend for their lives. With that being the case why on fucking earth do you rest your most creative player, our most in form players who has driven us in a great run of form. Now I know people will say we should have enough to beat Stoke, that might be right but when you haven't had enough to beat Boro, Everton, Southampton and needed last minute goals to beat Sunderland and Swansea then I would say you need to be as full strength as possible.

Why make the changes he made? We have been flying, a team full of confidence and he takes Stones out who has found form, Sterling who with him and Sane has been terrifying teams and obviously Silva. We have Boro away in the cup weekend, if he wanted to make changes then rest a couple there as we all know Boro will be weakened as they are trying their best to stay up.

Chelsea will stroll this league and it is because they have a solid team that they don't chop and change week in week out. We make changes for changes sake and it isn't good enough. I don't want to hear the bollocks about them not being in Europe either.

I love Pep, I love the football he is trying to get us playing I just wish he didn't feel the need to reinvent the wheel needlessly.

Oh I fucking hate Stoke
