Stoke post match

It was a pen, I'll leave it there.

Eyes on the player and he grabbed him, twice. As bad as obstruction, it wasn't solely for not looking at the ball.

Thankfully we won 4-1 so there's no need to bitch about the decision.

My point isn't whether you can follow the letter of the law & give it as a pen. Of course you can, just as he could have sent off two Stoke players had he decided to follow the rules there.

My point is refs can now decide what score they want any game to be, because players right now are doing what Sterling did & the refs are in position to see it.

So we'll see all the others given the same. Except we didn't for either side & it's not happening so far in the Liverpool game.

But any time the ref decides he fancies it...

That's weird, I had a look on rag cafe and they ALL agree it wasn't a pen.
Just a ridiculous decision that imo can have only been to even it up after Dean not giving the Joe Allen one.

I understand the ruling change, agree with it too, and ours was a perfect example of a definite pen, but you just can't give ones like the Sterling one, it sets a really bad precedent.

It's only our 2nd PL game and matchday 2 isn't yet complete... but what the hell?!

We're top of the league!
We're top of the league!
We're MANCHESTER CITY!
We're top of the league!

Exactly.

Clattenburg will be getting giddy....

Seriously mate, I've just watched that again and it's six and two threes. If anything, Shawcross gives the push. No way is that given against the rags.

No chance mate. Shawcross is trying to attack the space and Sterling is facing the opposite way to the ball and blocking his path into that area. Sterlings whole purpose is to block his run its completely indefensible.

An earlier poster asked what tune City fans were singing for Guardiola -
I could not hear it on TV but Radio Manc. (Fred Eyre) said it was to the Dave Clarke 5 tune -'Glad all over.'.....which Palace fans sing.

first half we were excellent controlled the game completely, second half we looked a bit leggy which isn't a complete surprise considering start of the season(fitness) and playing away in Europe during the week, i would swap the whole team for Wednesday and have a fit and ready team for west ham .

otamendi looked quality today didn't dive in stayed on his feet, stones looks calm and assured people slating navas ?though he did well, silva is enjoying his midfield role, ferna was excellent(rest him for midweek)and than new little black lad on the wings such an upgrade on sterling.

brilliant result, get some rest for the first teamers, let the second string/fringe /youth players play Wednesday. get ready for west ham , if we get a result v west ham then that will be 6 points up on last season.

little steps ,but so far so very good.

Trying not to be biased, I thought the first penalty was correct.
Joe Allen should have had a penalty.
The Sterling decision was silly.

Yes, the holding and tugging needs stopping, but Sterling did neither. Not sure why he'd put an arm out to Shawcross anyway, but a soft pen.

4-1 was a little flattering, but we were the better team and a win was the right result.

Second half we dropped off the intensity and conceded a lot more possession.

Sterling gaining confidence, and players look enthusiastic and willing.

The playing out from the back was very obvious today. I can only recall one instance (in the second half) when Willy held the ball and urged players to get upfield before kicking it. We'll get better and better at it, and confidence is a huge factor.

Well done City!
Agreed.
I don't quite get the Caballero over Hart thing. Clearly Willy is no improvement with his distribution - or if he is, Joe is completely awful. Other than that, it's brilliant to see really good players playing with a plan. We're gonna win a lot more than we lose.
