I think I got the Maine Road 96' Oasis There And Then off you as well?....

legend!

what people seem to forget is they're actually pretty crap live with no studio tweaking....i've seen them 3 times and all were poor vocally & sound wise....i'm hoping with the 20yrs + of technology advancement that it can make a difference

just dont expect it to sound like it does on the albums

I've seen them three times. The last one, their last show at Reading '96, doesn't really count. It was the 'Roses only in name. Like watching The Doors without Morrison, like watching the current line up of Guns'n'Roses.

Saw them twice in '95 when they rocked like bastards. Never saw them in the first album era. From what I can tell, and I've heard pretty much most of the early gigs on tape/cd, there were a couple of shows with sound issues (Spike/Ally Pally) and the rest of these "they were shit live" theories comes from the fact Ian Brown can't sing live. People reckon the Glasgow Green show was the best they ever did, and the acoustics in a big tent are going to be pretty shit, so that argument about their live sound doesn't stack up.

No sound issues on the Second Coming tour, just loads more Brown can't sing moaners. Fair enough, he was worse by that time, but, and I make no apologies for borrowing this from somewhere recently (can't remember where), the people who claim they're shit because the singer can't sing just don't get it.

How fast did those tickets go on Friday. Quarter of a million people in an hour. They get it. I don't want Phil fucking Collins or Bono. Listening to them, one would imagine, is like working in bank. Sterile like piss (to borrow a phrase). But anyone who says the music isn't good, you got some serious wax in your lugholes. Ian Brown said once the other three, when playing together, blow The Beatles out of the water. I'm inclined to agree.

I dare say Brown won't hit the notes he's supposed to, or hold those he does hit, but it will matter not one jot of shit. Next summer, when he sings the climax of I Am The Resurrection, just see those 140,000 hands in the air. He won't need to sing the repeat of that line; and it'll be heard for miles around.

I get it. What's that? Arctic who?

ps. Not a dig at you Shady, just using your post to highlight a consensus of opinion amongst non-Roses fans.

but i am a roses fan.....still listen to their tracks daily and followed them avidly back in the 80's-90's

my post was aimed more at people who had never seen them play live and are expecting them to sound like their studio albums.....the roses will never sound like their studio albums when they play live and that for me is why i like them

Fair point, shady; all those young whipper snappers making their Roses debuts gonna get a bit squashed by 50,000 overweight 40 year old dads (and mums too). In the 90s I laughed at that horrible phrase dadrock, now I fear I am becoming it.

slopes off to buff up his clarks wallabees

42 - yes
overweight - my days!!

In my head - still think I'm 20!!!

I had reservations about The Roses reforming and still do to an extent, however.......

The anticipation up to that press conference and the joy when I watched it (Wednesday after travelling back after watching City win their first ever European Cup game) told me it was a good thing.

Almost didn't try and get a ticket, but did so, to no avail...... then my stepson and his mate managed to get 4 (I've brought him up well..... he "gets" City and he "gets" Madchester - even telling everyone how good Northside were!!!!!) then the buzz got me and now I cannot wait.

Personally, I think the anticipation will be almost as good as the event. We're going on the Sunday and I've seen Brown live and we all know his limitations, but when the first bars of "adored" are heard (and they mustn't start with any other song than this) then this "fat dad in his 40's" will be back to an era that will never be equalled - Blackpool gig in August 89, the 5-1 in September 89............ happy "daze"!!!!!!

even telling everyone how good Northside were
I'm not too sure about Northside. But I'll definitely be getting out my early Inspirals EPs in the coming days.

Personally, I think the anticipation will be almost as good as the event.
That's a very big nail being hit on its head. It's already started. It started with the whisper of the press conference, before it was even confirmed. As unlikely as a Beatles reunion I read somewhere. By the time that sloping bass line begins its lazy arsed stroll us dad's will be moist in the pants.

I've got Sunday tkts too. Can't bloody wait.
