Clearly the best defender, in terms of technique and skill, that we have on our books.
 
Tbh, I wouldn’t be surprised if Stones got injured in England training and Tuchel is covering for him by saying he already had an issue.

Maybe not the worst but I remember Jovetic always had a note from his Mum. He was out if the wind was blowing in the wrong direction.
 
Seems like Tuchel was toying with the idea of playing him as a 6.

Is he more likely to get injured in midfield or in the back 4?
 
As far as our CBs go we have two who give Darren Anderton a run for his money.

Leaving us with 3 who are relatively reliable although ironically Gvardiol is currently injured.
 
Stones may be the most talented defender we have but the best ability is availability in he lacks massively with that.

And you’ve just labelled attributes that shouldn’t be the best attributes of a defender. He is a classy footballer. His best season being where he played mostly defensive mid. That sums him up. Love the man and he is a cult hero.

They're the best attributes for a defender in a team that values possession and dominates games.

Where that's the best way to go may be a different thing entirely.
 
Sadly Stones ability is now surpassed by his appalling injury record. We can no longer rely on him as a first choice defender. The club should have replaced him in the summer. Another mister by Pep and the club.
