Well, as one of the people who had a small hand in making the banner happen, I'm pretty happy with how it went.
Rodri loved it (and took a picture of it at the game). Liam Gallagher tweeted us (1894) because he liked it. I'd say on social media platforms like X/Instagram, the response was very positive. The response on here is more 50/50 (I think that potentially reflects the age demographics on here—I think it's fair to say some of the older blues don't appreciate the 'banter' displays as much as the younger fans). We completely accept that not everyone is going to love every display. We get some wrong and some right.
We've always been a fanbase that will call out bullshit. The way Madrid behaved when Rodri won the Ballon D'or was embarrassing and deserves to be mocked.
As a side benefit, the media response has been huge. Whether it's positive or negative, we have news outlets all over the world reporting on it. This builds influence (for example, journalists reaching out to us for stories, we then have a relationship and can work with them in the future).
As always, we are more than happy to receive feedback. We're trying to do our best and we'll keep going. If you'd like to become an 1894 member, join us
You'll receive our mailers to see what we're up to. You can vote on and fill in surveys that help us decide what routes to take from displays to fan activism campaigns.
All the best blues!
