the u-tube clips with fire coming from the taps were a hoax. in the u.s. they do have private wells but the fracking takes place much deeper as will happen over here. Onshore windfarms are just a gift to the landowners, neither use nor ornament to the public. The big concern with fracking is where the water will come from as it uses enormous amounts

Thats excactly what I said in the last fracking thread, wheres all the extra water coming from..this issue it seems is ignored or brushed under the carpet!!
The scientific evidence was reviewed by the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering and their conclusion about water requirements was:
■Water requirements can be managed sustainably. Water use is already regulated by the Environment Agency. Integrated operational practices, such as recycling and reusing wastewaters where possible, would help to minimise water requirements further. Options for disposing of wastes should be planned from the outset. Should any onshore disposal wells be necessary in the UK, their construction, regulation and siting would need further consideration.

You put forward a good argument west didsblue but you can get statistics to show anything. The Royal Society are not exactly independant - I'm sure they toe the governments line. There is too much money riding on this for the government to show caution. Drilling so far down & then drilling across cannot be safe as they simply do not know what the effects will be. The country needs to invest a bit more in green technology - as well as wind power, water power and other technologies. I'm not particularly 'green' (not much point with China opening a coal-fired power station every week!) - I just don't fancy my water being poisoned as I said. Who knows what the effects could be?
IMO it's common-sense: it's not safe. I respect you opinion differs so we'll have to agree to disagree.

The hippies don't like it, ergo I support it, let's frack.
A very reasonable argument Skash - let me refer you to the Madeline McCann thread!

I live on the Fylde coast an area where we are going to get a lot of Fracking and I say bring it on, and most people I know around here think the same the ones who are protesting are mainly people who have moved to the surrounding countryside, I have never seen such a bunch of middle class protesters in my life

We need energy security, the Fylde needs the investment and jobs it's a win a win for all concerned, the Economic benefits far outweigh any of the disadvantages.

The Wrea Green Mafia? Bunch of cunts!

I don't mind them fracking under my house. It's not as damaging as coal mining and it would be a bonus if it meant that all those fucking useless wind turbines that blight the landscape were scrapped.
You might think differently when your water is poisoned...
You know it doesn't make sense!
Personally, I don't mind wind turbines - we've got to have something.

Well done for posting this, op.

Unlike in rural America were the water comes from a local well. My water comes from a tap which is connected via pipes to a water treatment center. Which would minimize the chance of my water ever being poisoned as it is tested rigorously.
