i suppose it was because i love horses very dearly.
i'd never known a cow personally, so hadn't questioned it.
it dawned on me in that moment that if i found it abhorrent to eat a specific animal, but not others, it would henceforth make me a hypocrite.

there are some people who would eat any animal
& fair play to 'em, at least they are not hypocrites.
but could the vast majority of meat eaters happily tuck into a cat?
in vietnam, before cooking them, they kill cats by drowning them in boiling water.

All valid points Calum. I admire your honesty and self-awareness, commodities often in short supply on this forum. For that very reason, I wouldn't label you a hypocrite. Rather someone who simply acknowledges their own entirely understandable biases towards certain animals.
