Strange Pub Names

There's the Swan & Cemetery and the Railway & Naturalist in Bury near Gigg Lane. No idea how either of them got those names.

In Northampton there's a pub called the White Elephant. This got its name as it was something to do with the Racecourse just across the road. However this closed leaving the building as a white elephant, hence the name.
The Railway & Naturalist is in Prestwich .i used to know why it got its name cos it was my Local .something to do with a meeting place for the said groups .the pub is only minutes away from the old Prestwich Train Station & Prestwich Flower Park is only round the corner

-- Thu Jul 01, 2010 9:57 pm --

The Same Yet in Simister

there is a pub called The Eight Chimneys, hence the 8 chimneys from the power plant.

It's actually the Eight Towers in Widnes mate- my local. A few Blues drink in there & all get a mini-bus to every home game together! Great pub!

what about the two in town

"Britons Protection"

and

"Peveril of the Peak"

What about the Old House at Home on Manchester New Road, just before Grey Mare Lane, and the Floating Light on the Snake Pass
