Strategy for second half of the season

Keep winning.
The run will end at Klanfiekd on the 14th Jan as wins for us there are as rare as rocking horse manure so let's get another 3 wins under the belt before then.
Thereafter we have a stack of winnable games till the Arse (A) and Chelsea (H) games. Win those two and it's as good as done.

Oh I know they're not going to. But that's what I would do. Because March to May is where trophies are won (league cup exempt), and if our best players are fresher than the competition, who have had a winter break... See the other European teams in the CL vs us who will have played and extra 10 games on average...
And exactly who has a winter break?

Germany yes. Spain no, Italy no, Portugal no, France partial, Holland partial, Russia yes, Ukraine yes, Scotland yes.

None of the leagues that matter have a significant winter break.

England and Scotland have to domestic Cup competitions but Spain play cup ties over two legs.

Germany and Portugal play 34 League matches a season while virtually every other League plays 38 matches.

There is not much difference apart from the fact that the EPL has much greater strength in depth.

City need to learn how to rotate in selected league matches as well as in EPL Cup and FA Cup matches. City are not far off having two players for every position (at least when Stones and Mendy are fit). Sensible rotation will keep the squad fresh and keep some of the squad happy.

Steady as she goes.

Take each game, assess the squad, check fatigue levels, see what is coming next (and how soon) and make a strong decision in the best interests of the club’s greatest ambitions: silverware, especially the PL and CL trophies.

However, once you get to the SF of a Cup competition, it is time to get serious, because you have already worked hard to get that far, domtblow it by taking it too lightly. Indeed, a Cup Final at Wembley is a nice reward for all players, and a grand day out for Wallace, Gromit and everyone else!

Play strongest available team in every League game, play strongest rotated team in Cup games, but not so rotated that it becomes slow, too deliberate and disjointed, and rest whomever needs it prior to CL games, which is where the owners and coach are focused. By hook or by crook, they are going to make us interested in the CL!!!

Would a successful quadruple be 65 games? I don't think benching a player is enough of a break, winter break or not. It is more games than in Germany or Spain. I'd rather give individual players time off rather than systematically changing the whole starting XI and going out of competitions and losing matches.

I see the Rag Cafe are having exactly the same discussion. For quite a few posters, winning the Champions League is a realistic option. Particularly like....' Win the CL. We can beat any team over two legs...'
