If you wrote the article and it carries your name then surely you are responsible for it Stuart?

Running to Peter Spencer to grass up some poor kid in charge of captions who's probably on £6 per hour, shows exactly what sort of a person you are and tells us a great deal about the type of company you work for if that sort of behaviour is considered acceptable. Plus the fact that you've then come out on a public forum to admit that you've tried to get a fellow colleague into trouble is very poor indeed. Disgraceful in fact.

Shite rag loving newspaper that employs shite rag loving journalists.

If you had even the slightest clue, I would reply, but you are wrong on just about every point. My job is to write the articles, I am not responsible for picture captions in any way - I don't see them until they appear in the paper.
There is no "kid on £6 per hour" doing picture captions - your ignorance of this subject knows no bounds.
I don't mind valid criticism, in fact I welcome it, but stupid abuse from idiots likes you just narks me.

Had some guy knocking on the door yesterday trying to drum up me buying the MEN.

I answered in a City top and his face dropped. Told him as a blue there is no way I'm buying that paper

He said its full of City. Told him cos its got loads of City content doesn't mean its good to read and quoted the tour piece and the 10 goal thriller headline.

With a shug of his shoulders he was away.

I got the feeling it wasn't the first time today he'd been bombed out.

What is the "tour piece"?
And I think you will find the "ten-goal thriller" headline is yet another urban myth, made up by someone on here who, unlike the MEN, really DOES have an agenda.
Someone is at it again on here, making up the "fact" that the MEN website does not run United polls.
The most damaging poll we ever ran was in 1995, when we ran one asking "Should United sack Fergie?" when they had a bad start to the season. Not surprisingly, Blues were all over it, and the answer was a resounding Yes.
Fergie was not impressed, and the relationship between the MEN and United has not been on a good footing since.
But don't let real facts, and actual history, get in the way of your ridiculous ramblings
I've said it a million times, and nobody on here has ever answered it - what could we possibly have to gain by trying to alienate a large proportion of our readership, and potential readership?

I'm out at the moment and on my mobi.

The 'tour piece' relates to the big award that was won. We apparently only won a minor one.

I still have no idea what you mean. What "big award" and what "minor one"?

Stuart.

I'm not here to bait you(as if you could jrb), but what's with the constant comparisons between United and City and vice-versa? You know the articles I mean.

The latest prime example being.

Ouch! United cut City down to size at Manchester Tourism awards
7 Nov 2013 12:00

United won the bragging rights at the Manchester Tourism Awards on Wednesday as the Reds won 'Large Visitor Attraction Award' and City won 'Small Visitor Attraction of the Year'.

Let's start off.

It's a positive story. Both clubs winning awards for their respective attractions. Brilliant! Both clubs are winners and everyone's happy. But no! The MEN and the Journalist who wrote the piece then decided to include a belittling headline and subsequent article?

FFS! The MEN represents both clubs, so when both clubs do well, report it in a way that doesn't compare them and doesn't put them at odds with each other. Make it a positive article for both clubs and their fans for a change, rather than an article that appears to have a slant and a sly dig.(boring!)

Too often over the years the MEN has sought to pitch both clubs and both sets of fans against each other. I appreciate it drives readers and clicks, but it's tedious and tiresome.

Anyway. Who was the bright spark who linked Facebook to the comments section? I remember post counts going over the 1000 mark, now they rarely reach 10. In essence the MEN, sorry the Mirror, has done a great job of driving online readers and posters away. But don't tell the advertisers that.

I wish you and the MEN luck. But as you know, when something is ingrained in ones mind, it's hard to change it.(and that's not only me ;-) )

Just had a quick look at that story online. It was written by Dianne Bourne who, as far as I am aware, is not really interested in football at all. She, no doubt, just saw it as a story given the rivalry between the clubs.
You view it as a City fan and get annoyed, and I am sure there are Utd fans out there who saw it through Red specs and got some satisfaction, but Dianne, and whichever wrote the headline, just saw it as a bit of fun.
Which, of course, it is, unless you are unable to lighten up.
You can be absolutely sure that if there had been awards which had offered the chance to poke fun at United's expense, which might give City fans a laugh, it would have got exactly the same treatment.
There are far more important things in this world to get upset about, surely?

-- Fri Nov 15, 2013 9:27 pm --

The Facebook link was for practical and technical reasons - I honestly can't remember the full rationale, but I know that many of us predicted it would drastically reduce the interactive nature. One big problem with the old way of doing it was that moderating hundreds of comments every day became a huge task, and often libellous, abusive and racist comments would slip through.
There were other considerations as well, and it wasn't a decision taken lightly or without weighing up the consequences.

I honestly don't understand why you are all discussing this rag propaganda machine.

Not a fan of the publication as you may have gathered but the fact you don't understand why some folk want to discuss it is your problem, not theirs Bill.

Such are the joys of an interweb footie forum.......

Anyone who knows me will tell you i don't dance to anyone's tune.
I'd expand on it, but as you are a known WUM, and Wummery is the preserve of people who were damaged as children, or have unusually shallow lives, I shan't bother.
