1,454,436 votes for the SNP in general election in 2015, 1,617,989 voted Yes in the referendum and 2,001,926 voted No. Jimmy was banging on about democratic votes this week but her version of democracy seems different to mine. I'm yet to find out what my position would be (being English but living here for 26 years) if they got it through a second time.

Politicians have always been champions of democracy - until they find themselves among the minority, and then, all of a sudden, it's a shit system! Blair would have been trumpeting the goods sense of the British people had we voted to remain, and he would have been kissing European arses to become Prezzer of the EU, but, lo and behold, we vote OUT, and he wants another referendum. Anyone got any faith in any politician?

I don't get any hatred between the countries. People usually bringing up stuff from the past which had fuck all to do with them.

I'm no massive fan of the Prime Minister but at least she appears to accept the result and the will of the people - after all she campaigned for remain (not vigorously I'll grant you) but you haven't heard any of the kind of bitter remoaning rhetoric from her.

Put up evidence of that claim. I was under the impression that any bile similar to some of the posts on here would not be allowed as that's not what it's about for us.

Ruth Davidson, the Scottish Conservative leader, said the timetable demanded by Ms Sturgeon would “force people to vote blind on the biggest political decision a country could face” because they would not know the details of the Brexit deal by then.

Oh the fucking irony. The whole fucking Brexit referendum was "voted blind" by that measure.
 
Personally I think Sturgeon has delusions of grandeur.

When the EU eventually collapses under the burden of supporting bankrupt countries and economic refugees, she will be coming back to the English government cap in hand.

Brexit was just the tip of the iceberg, how many more countries have had enough of the bureaucracy and inequality of membership fees and will eventually say enough is enough?
 
I have to say that yesterdays events put me in mind ot the Den and Angie xmas drama in Eastenders with May being Angie and Sturgeon being Den handing over the divorce papers just in the moment of triumph - pure theatre
 
Referendums are non democratic, if we lived in a pantisocracy fair do's but we don't. The reason we elect representatives is because not every decision should be left to the largely ill informed masses. Opinions change on a regular basis but fundamental changes to the fabric of the rule of law should not be left to the whim of the people, and if they are then the vote required to enforce change should not be 50 percent.

We're now in a post Brexit, post Trump age when sentiment and gut feel matter more then economic analysis.
 
The uk govt cannot let salmond and sturgeon destroy scotland. There are no financial benefits and its even worse conditions than 2014(once in a lifetime). Really makes you wonder why the anti english party are trying to force this.....
 
I see the usual RWNJs are howling. The same ones who wanted an English only vote on certain issues in parliament.Well the scots voted to stay in EU (mainly English votes) are forcing them to leave. Shame the RWNJs don't see the hypocrisy. Mind they are not that bright to start with so no surprise. The liberals are not much better, allowing nationalism to dictate policies everywhere but at home. As for the labour lefties, irelevent in Scotland and England. No wonder Nicola fancies her chances face with that lot lined up against her. Go girl (then take over England!)

So if Scotland get indyref2 and vote to leave the UK then somehow get to join the EU, if and when they become a bit of a basket case economically and need to be bailed out by the EU would they have to turn over all their oil to the EU like Greece might have to turn over all their gold reserves (think I read it somewhere about Greece and it's gold reserves)
