Sturridge MOTD 2...

Danny loved it here until he was forced out by numpty, it had nothing to do with money other than the offer he was presented with was half of every other academy graduate with the words "Take it or leave it".

The shit you read in the media about him was just that........shit, "Leaked" to the media by numpty and his minions, the story is far to long to go into here and has been covered at length before.

Danny was a huge loss to this club, yet more damage done by that now out of work failure who polluted our managers office, he showed real class on Sunday despite the boo`s of the gullible who fell for numpties lies.

So it had nothing to do with money yet you clearly scoff at his contract offer that paled into insignificance compared to the new deal that the likes of Ireland signed that same summer? How contradictory is that? And if you think money had nothing to do with it, do you seriously think he was going to turn down what was seemingly a better offer from Chelsea who also happened to be a far better team than us at the time?

Hughes rightly gets the blame for a lot of things that went on during his time at City, but there were plenty of reports that Sturridge was being tapped up by Chelsea as far back as 2006 - a full 2 years before Hughes became our manager. His head was clearly turned by their interest and no amount of persuading was ever going to change his mind.

That said, I didn't agree with booing him - he made a decision to move on which was entirely up to him.

He was trying to get out from the moment he came in.

If we'd kept him,and Mario had never blighted our lives,i'm confident we would have progressed that bit further.

He is a talented lad, with the ability to play across the front line and, even more significantly, you can't buy his ambition and hunger.

Why we didn't attempt to bring him home instead of buying Sinclair, and knowing Marios situation,is unfortunate. He would certainly have added another dimension(maybe thats the reason Bob didnt want him....)

Yep. There seems to be this myth doing the rounds that Chelsea only nipped in because he became disillusioned with Hughes yet Chelsea were sniffing around for years before that. Maybe Hughes could've handled him better but it probably wouldn't have made a blind bit of difference and he'd have signed for Chelsea anyway. And besides, City fans were complaining about Sturridge's attitude long before Hughes arrived but funny how that gets conveniently forgotten by some.

As for the argument about Hughes favouring Ched Evans over him, well he couldn't have been too big a fan because Evans was sold to Sheffield United a few weeks after Sturridge left.

That makes it even worse, he was picking Evans ahead of him when he didn't even rate Evans and was about to sell him.

I don't have the stats to hand but I'm pretty sure Sturridge and Evans played a similar amount of minutes during the 08-09 season so that's that myth debunked.

Besides, it's already been correctly pointed out by Marvin that if anyone was keeping Sturridge out of the side it was Robinho as they are both left-sided forwards whereas Evans isn't. And Robinho was always going to be favoured over Sturridge, considering how high profile a signing he was.

If they played a simlar amount of minutes then he must have been picking Evans ahead of him 50% of the time.

I firmly believe Mario was a major influence in putting us on the map... It's a team game but without Balotelli we'd have been runners up.... You can talk about what if's but the reality is that last minute penalties like the Spuds game and the unforgettable assist for the Sergio stunner got us over the line....... I for one will always be glad we saw just a glimpse of what that lad will become

Well done. And it also means he was picking Sturridge over Evans 50% of the time so it hardly equates to him favouring Evans.
