Not really, virtue signalling is interpreted more about telling people how virtuous you are not actually doing virtuous actions to follow through on the talk.

Besides IIRC he did it for years without publicising it and only brought it up to encourage people to follow suit?

I'm going to guess he doesn't live in a two up two down in Harpurhey. I cannot be sure of course, as I am never likely to be in that position, but yes I'd like to think I would help refugees if I had the room.
