Suella Braverman - sacked as Home Secretary (p394)

Boris was a genius at deflecting attention. Every time he was challenged on his conduct he just responded with "the people of this country want us to focus on running the country, delivering Brexit" etc and suggesting the opposition were the ones that were causing issues when he just wanted to do his job. There are people out there that lapped that up and didn't see through his bullshit.
I wouldn't call it genius. He found out a long time ago that you don't actually need to answer questions at PMQs and he simply never did. He just had a series of identical sound bites that were repeated every Wednesday and there was nothing to stop him. Fortunately for him, the vast majority of the population never watch PMQs so they never would witness his empty rhetoric.

She's an over promoted coward. Who will probably only talk to the Gammon News Network as anyone else will rip her to shreds when she's taking her trumpian bullshit.

No I shouldn't call it genius. It's more that the rest of us are fucking idiots and fall for it. He's made a career out of deflecting away from the big questions and being a loveable moron. People lapped it up thinking he was fantastic and good for politics. He made it to Mayor of London and PM and surprise surprise he was just a fucking moron.

Not only did he realise that he didn’t need to answer questions, but he also realised that he didn’t need to actually tell the truth, either in or out of parliament.
You’re right it wasn’t genius- it was a simple realisation that there were enough truly gullible people about.

And because they were so willing to do that and forego proper governance, the country now finds itself waist deep in said bovine excrement and about to find the weight of the bill pushes them under. You get what you vote for but so does everyone else, alas.

Been trying to work out which minister resigned and returned under Blair. The only one that I can find that is slightly comparable was Mandelson who resigned after late disclosure of a home loan from a colleague and he got a new role in government 10 months later. An enquiry found he hadn't broken the ministerial code anyway but the publicity was having a detrimental effect on the government so he went anyway. Not sure if there's any other examples, certainly none where there was a clear breach and a reinstatement in less than a week.
This is pretty meaningless these days. An insincere and bollock-felt apology seems to circumvent any sanction the 'code' might mandate. They haven't an ounce of shame to cover the whole fuckin' front bench!

We've been exposed to the private school club. Do what you want and just shrug it off (or pay for it to go away). They delivered Brexit and the covid vaccine and furlough. Why shouldn't they have a party, lie in parliament, have another party, tell another lie, promote people who are sex pests and have another party? They've been unforgivably corrupt.

That Mandelson loan was huge news back then. If it happened now we'd barely hear about it, he'd probably get a promotion in fact. And we'd be told it was an innocent mistake that he had learnt from. There probably wouldn't even be an investigation.

Unsurprisingly all the main RW media outlets are totally ignoring the Braverman controversy and are painting PMQs as some sort of victory for Sunak.
