Summer Transfers

It's not that hard to top that performance from Yaya tbh

Yeah, he was pretty dire.

That said, I do think many of the complaints people had with aspects of our performance could be remedied by some of the names we've been linked to (that people are, for whatever reason, underwhelmed by). Carvalho may not be pacey, but his control, vision, passing and defensive contribution are top notch and would have been useful.

Further, though his leadership skills are oft exaggerated, I feel Bonucci would have been a powerful presence going forward for the winner, least of all because accurate, long passes are something of a forte of his.

Or just buy Ederson and use Gunn as second choice who was comfortably a better keeper than Pickford at u21 level.

Seconding this, though not sure what Guardiola thinks of Gunn ultimately.

Wasn't Mangala rated quite highly as a full back option? Not talking about being a first choice but could provide cover without spunking another £30 million

Unpopular opinions time:

1. We would have been much more solid in the middle of the park yesterday with William Carvalho.
2. Aguero still isn't consistently putting them away and another option up front, other than Jesus, is absolutely essential.
3. Our entire bench is as useful as a trap door in a canoe and we have almost zero squad depth. 8 should be the bare minimum incoming and more youngsters should be given a chance.

Agreed on all three!

I'd like to see us go for Neymar, he's 25 and has scored 52 goals for Brazil! Him and Gabriel Jesus are a brilliant partnership. Wouldn't leave much money left to buy fullbacks though.

I think we really missed a trick not loaning Gunn out this season, he would have replaced Willy as number 2 next year after a season in Championship in my opinion

Mangala is in my view a decent defender but he is not a ball player. Pep needs this just as much if not more in a full back.
I don't think he has a future here whilst Pep or anyone with a similar philosophy is manager.

Mangala is like Sakho.

Put him in a defensive team and ask him to just defend he will look a world beater, but ask him to play football and defend 1v1 in open spaces he struggles.

How the heck would we get Neymar there's not a cat in hells chance of that happening. They have two shirt sellers ones 25 and the others in his thirties. The only one that goes if any is messi and I don't see that happening.

My own impression was that in 1v1 he was pretty decent, bearing in mind that even the best defenders are often beaten from time to time in this situation.
It's with the ball that he struggles.

There was also concentration issues and decision making. He'd have been brilliant against Costa on Wednesday though.

I see we're linked with Pepe on a free in the Summer. Was going to suggest him a while back, fantastic defender and can play too.

However, he is a bit of a knob and old. I think he'd solve some of our problems short-term though, a nastier, arsehole version of VK.

I'd rather have a long-term replacement than a stop-gap

Whilst I generally agree, but you do need balance in the squad, leaders and experience are important. Most of our older players look to be moving on, and most of our targets seem to be early twenties. He's a proven winner.

It does seem unlikely though.

If i was Arsene Wenger, he'd be top of my list.

Last summer we pretty much got 90% of the players I either wanted or had positive opinions of. Not only that, we got players in positions I predicted we were.

I wanted Jesus, Sane, Gundogan, Stones, and Pogba and was okay with Bravo's quality. My only objection was Nolito. I didn't like his age and the fact he didn't fit the speedy winger mode I thought we needed.

So in short, I gotv5 of the 6 plauers I wanted, was okay with the 6th we got and only had reservations about 1. I'm short I got a perfect summer.

This season, I expect the pendulum to swing hard the other way, meaning we'd probably get a bunch of players I do t want. Here is the likely list.

GK: Ederson ( The only one we will get that o want)
LB: Rose or Kolasinac (I want Grimaldo, or Bernat)
RB:Fabihno or Heinrich (I'm okay with this but i'd rather we got Kimmich, Semado, or Karsdorp)
CB: Bonnuci Pepe or Rudiger ( I'd rather we got VVD as a starter or Vlad Chiriches if we are looking for a backup)

DM: Fabihno or Carvahlo (I'm okay with Fabihno, but really bot that interested in a specialist DM, would rather have Isco, Rafihna or Vetrati I.e. a regular CM)

CM: We are not going to get one ( yep that sucks as Isco or Rafinha will be a great addition.)

FW: OX ( as part of our Englishification of the squad instead of say sire fire winger forwards like Mbappe or Coman)

So here is my feared list of likely incoming:

Ederson, Rose, Kolasinac, Pepe, Gibson, Carvahlo, Oxlade Chamberlain, Roberts, Maffeo.

:(

Gibson, Carvalho, Pepe. wow that would would be underwhelming. Van Dijk is going to be like Kante, he moves to a big club and performs and everyone lauds him as the best CB. Gibson would cost like £30m, might as well get VVD for £50m or whatever

Kolasinac would be a decent signing especially on a free. He's young, probably the best defender out of everyone we've been linked with, but he's apparently improved his attacking greatly. It's actually crazy how many LB's came from Valencia: Alba, Gaya, Bernat, Grimaldo, Lato is highly regarded
