Summer Transfers

Looking like Ederson, Henrichs, Bonucci/Laporte, Kolasinac, Fabinho, Dahoud and Isco.

Would not be too shabby at all. I'd bring Roberts back too, maybe Unal.
Alright I'll just come out and say it. I don't rate him at all. Sure there are rumors he may be targeted to play CB (I hope), but he simply is average as a left back.

It sucks coz we are so weak at the position that most decent players will seem an upgrade. But we should be looking to sign players who could become the best at the position.

I'm underwhelmed by this interest.

Alright, rant over!

Just based on the latest rumours you'd expect something like this:

Bravo >>> Ederson
Willy >>> Willy
Gunn >>> Gunn

Sagna >>> Henrichs
Zabaleta >>> Maffeo

Stones >>> Stones
Otamendi >>> Laporte
Kompany >>> Kompany
Tosin >>> Tosin

Kolarov >>> Kolasinac
Clichy >>> Grimaldo

Yaya >>> Fabinho
Fernandinho >>> Fernandinho
Fernando >>> Dahoud
Delph >>> Isco
Silva >>> Silva
Gundogan >>> Gundogan
KDB >>> KDB
A. Garcia >>> A. Garcia

Sterling >>> Sterling
Navas >>> Roberts
Sané >>> Sané
Nolito >>>

Aguero >>> Aguero
Jesus >>> Jesus
Iheanacho >>> Iheanacho

That would be 17 foreign players and 8 HG players (3 association trained - Roberts, Sterling, Stones).

8 new signings + 2 returning loanees, 10 leaving.

The problem is, aside from the feasibility of the transfer fees - would these players join us? Would Dahoud want to come if we're going to get Isco and Fabinho in midfield already? Would Grimaldo want to come if we're getting Kolasinac?

How do you keep 6 midfielders who would genuinely expect to start every game happy with 3 spots open?
You can't. This is why I've been having doubts about us getting Isco. We have 4 guys already in Silva, Debryune, Gundogan and Dihno for 3 spots. In my mind there is only 1 midfield spot left for a player who gets decent time. And that assume Dihno and Silva will get less time due to age. If we get 2, someone would have to be Delph injured most of the time for it to work.

I don't see us getting 2 midfielders. Especially if the Fabihno is the RB. He is also a midfielder. It will be 1 midfielder to replace Yaya, Delph, ea
Could certainly see OX coming in.
Ox for Nolito wouldn't be bad.

We're on the same page again. He's average and we can do a lot better, though he'd make good squad depth and a fallback option if we got him on a free.

That said, I don't think the rumour has legs at the minute because:
1. Source is BILD and they haven't corroborated with pictures etc like the Gundogan meeting.
2. We can get superior players in his positions and the club will be remiss to take a gamble on a low ball after Pep was sold so horribly short this season, particularly defensively.
3. He's not really a Pep player.

We'll see, but I'd be surprised if the club didn't exhaust all options for left back, such as Bernat or Grimaldo, before looking elsewhere.

Could definitely happen, but I don't think we've been linked to any wingers lately, and I'm assuming whoever takes that spot in the squad won't play much because the some combination of Aguero, Sterling, Sané, Jesus will fill those front 3 positions 90% of the time.
I don't think that's necessarily true. Aguero, Sterling, Sane, and Jesus had played 90% of the time only because there is such a huge downgrade from them to Navas/Nolito. If for example we get Coman and Mbappe, pretty sure there will be more rotation between them don't you think?

No, I think we want those 4 to play as often as possible and they'll all demand to play 40+ games a season each. You can't add in players like Coman and Mbappe without people getting very pissed off.

3 starting and 1 on the bench with Roberts and the possibility of cameos for Brahim or Sancho makes sense depth and quality wise.

Well Pep kept Thiago, Javi Martinez, Alonso, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Gotze and Muller relatively happy when they were competing for 3/4 spots. Several of them play other positions (Lahm, Muller, Martinez) but all were dominantly playing in midfield.

So....I don't think it's impossible if you consider KDB can play out wide occasionally, Fabinho could go to RB, Fernandinho could go CB (particularly with the squad I've listed only having 2 reliably fit senior CB's) etc.

Perhaps most likely is that Maffeo, Aleix and Tosin get fucked off, but that would be a shame.

I know all of them want to play as many games as they can but this past 10 games all of Sane, Sterling, Aguero, De Bruyne, Silva looked knackered since there was no rotation at all.

Because Jesus is injured. Those 3 would have played 25% fewer games if Jesus was around. Less if we had another bench option like Roberts.

Same goes for KDB and Silva - they've both played 10 times in the last 10 games, and if Gundogan was fit, they' could have played only 7 times each.

By "relatively happy" I'm going to assume you mean some were happy. Coz Gotze sure wasn't.

And even then Thiago and Martinez were injured a lot. So you really had 4/5 guys for 3/4 positions a majority of the time. And Gotze still was getting screwed.

Even though I agree we will have injuries and should probably prepare well for its eventuality. The idea of having 8 starting caliber CMs strike me as unworkable.

Garcia on the other hand is actually a key need. Coz he is the one guy you can give little CL and league starting time to and mostly save him.for cups and the injury crunch period.

The others you'd have to give consistent time. Sure Fabihno will be at RB but for the 3 middle spots you have Silva,Dihno, Kevin, Ilkay and Dahood. 5 key guys for 3 spots. Even if Dihno spends all his time at CB, so long as no one is injured, there are still 4 starters for 3 spots. Excluding Dihno, Fabihno, and Garcia.

Its seems a hard sell the idea of now adding Isco to that group. Even if Kev is a Tweener. Is it Doable? Sure. But highly improbable.

Ederson - £30m
Bonucci - £40m
Kolasinac - free
Henriches - £20m
Fabinho - £30m
Isco - £20m
Coman - £35m

Total - £175m

Although I still feel Aguero will be sold, if so we'll need another striker too.
