Upamecano has a year left on his contract why would he sign a new 1 year contract if he wanted to move to Bayern next season ? the press is reporting his agents reaction to Arsenal trying to buy him on the cheap as ` Dayot Upamecano's agent Volker Struth believes it is highly unlikely the defender will move to Arsenal this summer, despite RB Leipzig having made clear that the Bundesliga club will not allow any of their high-value players to run down their contracts and leave on a free.`What happens when City offer more than Bayern + Angelino?
I don't believe large transfers will take place this summer," Struth told German TV channel Sport 1.
"And I think Upamecano is a player who will demand a large fee.
Leipzig pressures the player into leaving for the contracted 60 million EUR - or extending the contract (for a higher wage, the 60 m EUR probably unchanged). Upemecano probably will do the later - and Struth somehow confirmed that last Sunday.
Seems that the clubs Upemecano wants to go to cannot give him the conditions he wants this season or do not want to pay the transfer sum.
I do not know if one of this clubs is Bayern, but the media (like they usually do here) heavily links him to them. But Bayern has Süle coming back and Boateng who is very much liked by Flick (and performing well right now) probably staying another season. Bayern like all teams despite being in a very good situation compared to a lot others will only make necessary transfers this season. Corona means much less earnings this season and a next season that could see less earnings because of playing without stadium spectators and less commercial income because of the recession.
I do not know if it is about lack of the right clubs interested right now or maybe even that he thinks it is better for his development to stay another year at Leipzig with a talent developer like Nagelsmann to be better equipped for the more difficult fight for places in a top club.
Just my thoughts about it. Arsenal would not really be a move upwards...
I can follow Struth's thoughts very well. This season the transfer market will be different. All clubs have lost money and the situation is very uncertain. The clubs that are better off will only make necessary player sales and/or try to make bargains - whereas a lot clubs will have to sell and accept prices below former market value. And clubs like e.g. Dortmund, Leverkusen or Leipzig probably will wait a year to sell talents like Sancho, Havertz or here Upemecano as they hope do get more money in a year (and they can survive this season without selling!).
