Life is indeed harsh
I know. I let my daughter choose the drinks, and she chose apple juice. Not vimto, beer or iron brew, but apple juice ffs.

bloody kids i believe you're not allowed to lock them in a cupboard anymore either, bloody esther ranzen
Kids need discipline, the 2ft cupboard is an adequate deterrent. Ignore that "do-gooder", she'll ruin kids backbones with tripe like that.

-- Sun Jun 09, 2013 11:35 pm --

Sunday is a day of rest. Over here in Belgium it is how it used to be in the UK - Everywhere is closed, Bliss

the way it still should be imo

give the staff a break ffs
Most people who work Sundays have a weekday or 2 off aswell... I used to anyway.

I do 7 days every week, I do only do 10-1 on a Sunday though. That's why when city play I usually go, it gets me out of the place. If I took a day off as such I'd definitely go in work. Euro trips are best cos I can't go in work. I've started to miss most prem aways just down to the cost but then of course I go back in work. The economy and the way football prices are give me no option.

I don't think the main point is just to have time off work. Owing to the nature of my work, I work three Sundays out of four. It can be quite nice, getting a weekday off in lieu when everyone else is working, but it's not the same as a day off at the weekend. Free Sundays are now something special, but that's because everything's shut here. It forces you to do something other than the normal. Go for a long walk, take the boat out, mow the lawn without getting stressed, just chill with a cold beer, etc. It's not really about having a day without work, but as I say, being forced to do something that is good for the soul.

It's mostly shite in the shops, anyway. Reduce the opening hours to one day a week, and it would still be too much.

Im confused by people saying this as the law is 40hrs a week work so most people will get 2 days off unless they want to work overtime

Didn't think anyone would bite on that piece of irony.

essential services do not have a chance to " keep sunday special"

those who oppose it are not content to not shop on sundays themselves, they want to impose their will on those who believe it is a relic of an age long gone, when going to church was socially compulsory,
The hilarious notion that families need sunday bonding is pitifully desperate. It is also undemocratic, like having unelected bishops in the house of lords.
Again if you believe shops should be shut on sundays, then dont shop, but spare the rest of us the preaching.

Yer right, BB. Much of the agitation we find today is from people who want other people to do something they do or don't do! Make yer own personal choice and leave other fuckers alone!

It's not always quite so easy as making your own choice though is it? If your boss suddenly says to you, as from next week we're changing your day off from Sunday to Wednesday, take it or leave it, not many people can afford to choose to turn it down.

It isn't just religious nutcases who like to spend time with their families at a weekend. For a lot of people, Sunday might be the only day they get to spend more than a couple of hours with their children.

After the laws being relaxed last year for the Olympics, isn't it time to change Sunday opening to whatever time stores want? It's seen outdated and old fashioned still to have 5pm closing for the bigger stores.

Yeah cos the retail giants really need another boost to their profits while paying minimum wage to some poor fucker who has to work unsocial hours whenever heshe is told.
