Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Wanted a closer angle of that Gvardiol penalty shout. Only saw it from far, or too late in the situation.

What did he do? From what I saw he constantly made poor decisions 1st half and never once got up and down the wing to join in any attack
O’Reilly was the same on the other side. It’s because we kept giving the ball away in midfield so we couldn’t sustain any attacks for the full backs to get forward.

The midfield giving the ball away has been a huge feature of our play this season that is negatively affecting us.

A frustrating night and we only really got going in the last 25 minutes.

Fair fucks to Sunderland, they worked like trojans and had good quality too.

Great to see Rodders again, even without match sharpness he is so assured.

Last season we’d have lost that. Get refreshed for Chavs and we go again.

A long way from our best (as we were against Forest) but last season we would have lost that game.

Some improvement in the second half and Rodri looked peerless on his return and also very good from Gvardiol when he came on.

I would love to see the pairing of Nico and Rodri in the middle to match the more physical teams.

Nunes hardly put a foot wrong but too many players were simply not at it today especially Haaland, Foden and O’Reilly who had his worst game of the season.

Four points from two hard away games is not the end of the world but obviously not good enough for our challenge with Arsenal.

Extremely poor first half. I know we have to rotate players but Ake is done unfortunately. I wince every time he goes in for a challenge in case he gets injured. He was never the fastest player in the first place but he looks well short now.

Savinho - I hope he was playing because the transfer window is open and we’re reminding people he’s still here. I wouldn’t call his performance an advertisement but he wasn’t alone in that tonight, sadly. Should have buried both his chances at the beginning of the second half.

Gvardiol played well and it was great to see Rodders back on the pitch.

Much better at times in the second half but we’re so wasteful and you don’t win games finishing like that. Credit to Sunderland, they were up for it.

We need to take advantage of this window to hopefully move a few on and get a couple in.

This Loss is on the players. Pep can’t be blamed one bit. He could’ve played TJ after 70 mins but we had 5 chances to score and failed to convert. Players like Savio are the perfect examples as to why a team struggles to dominate. He will never make it here. Semenyo can’t come soon enough. Possibly the worst I’ve seen Haaland and Foden play today since they’ve been here outside last season. It’s no longer in our hands. It’s now going to take a miracle to win the league from here on out. Arsenal aren’t laying down neither is a team with EIGHT key players out, worst performance of the season. Not much to say but learn from it and move on.

Give the ball to Cherki more, stop playing players that don’t bring anything to the team and bring our quality down. For instance. Ake x Dias x Donnarumma is the worst combo i can think of, there is less than 0 build up play there, Bernardo doesn’t do anything besides run, when he can’t run anymore just take him out. TJ might be poor but he’s the only player that runs off the ball and who can see his runs and acc pass him the ball ? CHERKI. If Foden can’t do anything then bring on Rico because he has a good relationship with everyone especially Haaland. There’s small tweaks that can make a chain reaction.

All hope is not lost. But this was a significant setback.

Really hope Nico G can get a good rest.
It was a draw....ffs.

I bloody loved that match, if not the final outcome.
Credit to Sunderland - physical, tactical, committed, and played to win in a dogged and fair fashion. Well done to the referee too who kept the game moving and was fair throughout.
We moved it too slowly in the first-half but much better in the second.
I never stopped believing we would win, but we just couldn't stick it away.
On we go, with plenty of twists and turns to come.
Felt exactly the same. I felt like the winner was coming, we just run out of time. Brilliant intensity from the team towards the end and I was on the edge of my seat. They made every effort to win that game. That’s what football is all about.

Would've liked to have seen a proper replay of the challenge on Gvardiol which knocked him off balance for his header. A bit conspicuous in there absence though it seems.
I saw it a couple of times and couldn't make out what happened or even if initial contact started inside or outside the penalty area.

We cannot win every game, but I'd watch that every day of the week.

Agreed about Haaland. As for Savinhio. Dont get me going.
You are like a broken fucking record.. Sav should have scored yeah he should.. But he did well beating the full back.. Shame no fucker tried to get on the end of anything..
Same with Doku.. Beats the man but can't find a man.. Either it's the players in the box or it's the wingers fault.
