Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Tbh...i am starting to think safety is now likely, and not just a hope.... but I'm not going to lie.... I still look out for Wolves, Burnley, West Ham.and forests results first..just in case... 50 years of pain and being let down doesn't leave the system easily.
We celebrated 40 points last week, it never goes away.

We really do need to start shooting from distance a bit more when we come up against aggressive teams who like to pack their own box .... trying to walk the ball into the net is very difficult in those circumstances, and a long shot could easily benefit from a 'wicked deflection'.
I do agree with the last part. At times we are guilty of putting in too many passes in and around the opposition box and against a resolute defence like tonight we really need to take half chances when presented to us. Maybe then we could have some luck with a deflection, a handball given.

From that comment, you watched it on the radio ?

Nico OR got a knock and played on, as did Ake, both played fine, and Nunes was one of our best players. Dias was the best defender, but they all played well, and Gvardiol who replaced NOR was our best attacking player, as well as defended well.

I have both the radio and a stream on, because the stream is usually 2-3 minutes behind.

Sunderland are determined and gutsy though, and they've showed a lot more fight than the likes of Wolves have this season ..... Savinho and Haaland had clear chances, but aside from those opportunities Sunderland handled everything we could throw at them pretty well tonight.
They had two tactics

Lump it up to the big donkey and hope for a break… and waste time

Thought they were very poor

If half our players who didn’t turn up had of played like they can do, we’d have strolled that game

Shocking two points to drop against probably the most limited team in the premier league
I get what your saying but they were brilliantly set up and coached. That first half they just didnt let our back 4 or midfield settle and won alot of duels. We couldnt find our rhythm. I knew they couldnt keep that up but while they didnt go forward as much they defended for their lives and we just couldn't come up with a goal. I've never seen so many players packed in such a small area. How do you get through that? You're right though stepping back and looking at it they lacked creativity but they made it up with guts and determination plus a home crowd that lifted them to a different level.

Just needed to be a little more clinical but the performance and character shown bodes well for the future. 2 points lost for sure but this team is improving and beginning to gell. The return of Rodri is brilliant and didn't he look good.

I think they surprised us all TBF. I didnt expect that level of committment from them missing so many players. A big part of that was the support they got from the crowd.

Our first half did for us, admittedly the footage we watched wasn't great but that first half hour seemed to fly by without much happening.

The chances we created second half should have resulted in goals though.

I think it shows where we are at when 3 of our best players (Foden, Haaland, O'reilly) had awful games and our Brazilian winger was rubbish but we still managed to hold tough to beat, to date, Sunderland at home.

One thing is cleared up though, I wasn't sure about Semenya but tonight has cleared that up.

Get him in (after they play Arse) and get what we can for Sav'

There will be plenty more teams go to Sunderland and don't get 3 points.
Both keepers had good games.
Both teams could of won it.
Not all 0-0 are boring and great to see Rodri improve things straight away.
Only negative for me is Savio he frustrates the life out of me.

Fair fucks to them, the manager has them running through brick walls for him and the fans love it. I'm not a fan of them kicking lumps out of us, but it's the perfect way to play against this City team tbf. I was happy in the second half that we started giving it right back to the cunts. All in all, might not be a bad point come the end of the season.

Exactly... hard to compliment a side who've spent over £170m and only have interest in keeping 11 behind the ball. One of the most anti-footballing sides I've ever seen.

Yes they did well to limit our chances but why not have a go with the crowd behind them? There's obviously no chance of them going down.

That said I thought we were abysmal in that first half. Would be nice to see us impose ourselves a bit quicker when playing away. On a positive note great to see Rodders slot straight back in and look like he'd never been away.
