Sunderland (A) | PL | Post Match Thread

Thing is we wouldn’t get away with how Sunderland played tonight one thing is we not smart as team! Haaland was roughed up all night and never tried to buy a foul and there was one moment Haaland tried to do that just put his hand on the back of Xhaka he dived referee gave a foul it’s weird that Sunderland’s defenders where running through Haaland all game to win the ball Haaland tried to compete instead of trying to win a foul! We never been match wise we to honest
Yes . That " foul" by Haaland summed it up for me . He's such a gentleman . Love him .

And you are right . The one game we put ten men behind the ball after taking an early lead ( Tarquins away ) we got castigated by the press. Heck , I caught a commentator sympathizing with the dippers dilemma having to play against a park the bus Leeds . That's more or less what we deal with every match .

Forest and Sunderland played out of their skins. They fought like animals. They would regard it as a triumph not to lose, at home, to Manchester City. And Sunderland did. We should take that as an index of where we are, and as a compliment.
Four points? Not particularly good, but easily negotiable in the coming months. Rodri back. All to play for. Keep the faith.

Not to digress as this is a football board, I'm not here and never have ventured to bore anyone with my practice- however I will not be called out by some two bit "I wiki-ed Zen for a minute" fraud.

Zen doesn't work, Zen simply is. Zen does not step in to solve problems, it doesn't take credit for wins or make excuses for losses- it simply is. Zen isn't given, taken or received or lost.

It is there in absence of everything , it is there in the presence of nothing.

Zen doesn't understand, doesn't misunderstand. It is not some magic rubric for devining. Facts are irrelevant, after the fact is exactly the same as before the fact.

Those who ascribe some value or worth to Zen have absolutely zero understanding. That said, Zen is not to be understood- Zen simply is.

Once the purportedly wisest man claimed to understand Zen and as such stopped searching. He was never as alone or lost than at that moment.

Zen cannot be quantified or qualified. It will not be questioned as it is has no answer and is no question.

Zen simply is awareness of the absolute present moment and knowledge that the only thing that exists is that one inherently and infinitely fleeting present moment and then to simply accept this reality without judgment, qualification, sanction or exception.

Bottom line, any charlatan who raises the question "are you Zen" by definition will and can never truly "know" Zen.
Which ‘Zen’ uses the words ‘Two bit’?

Enjoy your peace, man ;-)

Does zen track back?

Even though we were not the best in an attacking sense we did create enough chances to win the game.

Savinho has to score his chance.

Haaland had 1 in the first half and he does exactly what he did v WHU - straight at the keeper.

Gvardiol header.

Doku when he cut inside. Instead of blasting it at the defenders head, side foot it in the corner.
Yes and we had more. Savinho had 1 vs 1 too, it was not bad attempt really, but predictable and keeper has quite easily closed the angle with his leg.

Gvardiol at the end had a good idea to take the touch in the box to avoide a block but been a bit unlucky.

We been excellent 2 half really, like superb bar finishing. The atmosphere was exceptional and our guys really almost overcame it been trying till the very end.

Most mental thing I've seen on here

It's very tough to play against a side like last night. Sunderland seemed to have about 15 players on the pitch, they hunted in packs and Haaland at times had 4 players around him. We just werent given time on the ball, when we did get the ball Sunderland knew when to drop deep or press.
The energy from Sunderland was amazing.
Once Sunderland did start to tire they just packed their box.

Rodri brought some control and calm to our game which was great to see.

The ref allowed the game to be more physical, which didnt suit us but played straight into Sunderland hands. It meant the home crowd were on it from the word go almost. The pitch looked small and not in great shape the home team advantage.

All in all I'll take a point, if Sunderland play with that intensity every game you can see why they havent lost at home.

Credit should go to the Sunderland fans.
They have been through the proverbial mill over the last decade but by fuck are they enthusiastic!
Cheering every tackle and throw in for their team definitely had an effect on the game and made it a hugely hostile environment for our lads.
Wish we could bring some of that atmosphere back to the Etihad….

Yes, thought they been exceptional. Every little positive challenge been applauded by them like a goal. I would say that yesterday they really took part of taking 2 points off us, just added a fuel to their players engine.

Disruptive and determined performance from a well coached Sunderland side . We are simply too lightweight to slap down these sort of tactics and we need a bit of bite to answer back . That one to one duel Diaz had with their centre forward on the break in the first half was like watching old football Vs pep ball in one moment.

Foden riding the churn in midfield was like watching a small dingy in a hurricane . Gvardiol was a game changer taking on the O'Reilly role and so good to see Rodri ( albeit a cautious Rodri ) back .

Thought the ref had a tough job but mainly did well , didn't buy lots of striped red shirts falling over like felled trees as the final whistle approached .

Would have liked three points but glad Donna , Nico and Bernie came away without bookings . Slate for yellows wipes clean now .
Personally I thought it was a blatant foul as he was pulling Dias's shirt all the way through that run so I'm not surprised Dias came off second best.

They've always had great fans but that atmosphere last night sounded like they've ramped it up a fair few notches compared to what they were like when they were last in the Premier League.

They were rabid last night. The team and the fans! Definitely worked together and fed off each other to get that result. It was surely quite an intimidating atmosphere to play in.

Did you see the game, and how hard Sunderland worked?
Sunderland weren’t really weakened that much except up front which looked obvious to me. They lost one senior defender and one senior midfielder but the replacements certainly looked capable and good luck to them. Le Bris is a decent manager and has the whole squad playing for him. It looks like all those who have gone to AFCON were new recruits over the summer (a couple of them have less than 5 games) so I am guessing the replacements who came in were either existing players from last season or junior players taking their opportunities.

Exactly.

Last night's outcome (a draw when we hoped for a win, leaving us trailing the league leaders by a few points) reminded me of the 2020-21 season when we drew 1-1 at home to The Baggies and everyone was writing us off for the title.

Cue a 15-game winning run and we ended up streets ahead of every other team in the league.

Of course, our squad is currently in transition and we are only just getting the likes of Rodri back to full fitness after a dreadful year or so of injuries.

But I sense this group of players can emulate (or at least approximate) what the Aguero/Silva/De Bruyne et al squad did during that amazing run to the title.

Just have faith, fellow Blues! And as I was taught by all my coaches when I was learning to play the game.. 'Rule number 1: You never, ever give up until the game or the season is over..'!

(Btw, well done to The Mackems.. great, high energy team performance throughout and support from their fans.. a fair point earned by both sides last night!)

Opinions & Butt Holes , everyone has one. Nobody, let me repeat, nobody has taken 3 points from them at their place.
And nobody, let me repeat, nobody, other than City, has played them at their place while they've been missing 5 or 6 players. Other than Leeds perhaps who were 16th at the time and also drew. Hence I believe it's two points dropped.
They title isn't decided in January, but we've already lost at Brighton, Villa and Newcastle, and still have to go to Anfield (where we hardly ever win) and Chelsea.
