Sunderland (H) | PL | Post Match Thread

‘Where were you when you were shit?’ and ‘Your support is fucking shit’.

You can hold either view, but you can’t hold both. Either our fans are only coming because we challenge for silverware every year, or our fans aren’t coming.

3-0, and a long trip home. I can hold both of those views.

Enjoy the relegation battle. You’re used to ‘em.

Haha very true but when i watch a match i want to be entertained & if Cherki is confident enough to pull it off then yes please.
A rabona isn't always showboating, anyway. When the ball is slightly behind you, it's both the quickest and only way to get the ball away with any gusto. Also when needing to change its direction 180⁰ and a back-heel isn't possible.

Gazza's penalty, though - absolute showboating :-)

Nice afternoon that. We played well and the win was well deserved. We had a good tempo and controlled the game more or less throughout. More often than not we're in trouble from our mistakes, which were minimal yesterday. Great result.

Always confuses me when the away end sings those songs. So we apparently have no fans but all these supporters who turned up are only here because of the success. And they sing this to a stadium with over 50,000 people in it.

The GD save after the mistake was key, unless we could have another Leeds on our hands and got lucky with the shot hitting the post, but then should have polished of the 3-0 earlier with Haaland and Reijnders the worst of the misses.

Sunderland played like they had a bigger game the week after.

I've always taken it that the shit support means making no noise (usually true). The 'where were you' means you weren't a fan at that point, or at least weren't coming to the games, which, statistically, will become increasingly true - depends when you want to count the change in fortunes, but you'd probably need to be 18 to have been coming before our current trophy tsunami started.

Unlike at, say, the rags where 'where were you when you were shit' translates to 'did you come to the Everton game?'

even though they closed half their stadium in league 1 oh dear
Sunderland are the only set of fans in the country who can have a pop at us about attendances when we were shit.

They hold the 1st, 2nd and 3rd record average attendances in the third tier from the recent years they were down there. With ours coming in 4th behind them.

Exactly. Why do we have that core of fans that think we're never going to concede chances?
Yeah and the commentators also. "City can still be got at". Well I saw an Arsenal team that can also be got at today by the same count. Have they beaten anyone of significance this year yet in the league? We at least thrashed the scousers.

You'll always get that though. I remember a cup match at Notts County where we played them off the park with something like 30+ chances. They won 1-0 with their only effort.

We've also had a couple v Southampton in more recent times where they've got a late winner on the break after hammering them all match.

I believe we're better than a lot give us credit for, because most other teams don't have to play against a 10-man wall week in week out, yet year after year we've done it and mostly got the win. It's all about getting enough. I also think we'll get better as the players get used to each other more, but some of the newer (Khus, Ait Nouri, Marmoush) players need game time too as we'll need them as the season progresses.

I also think Liverpool will come again too, I'm assuming they won today (watched it up to 2-0), and Isak and/or Salah are going to click at some point.

A lot of the doubt at the moment, especially from the naysayers, I think is because they don't see a team that will get 90-100 points and they're probably right, but there's no other team currently capable of reaching that target either. As I mentioned earlier, Liverpool's final points tally last season wouldn't have been enough to finish above us in our last 6 previous title wins.
I remember agains't Bolton where we had numerous chances. Seem to remember them not having a chance , but they won 1 nil og

49k capacity compared to 33k at Maine Road when we were in the 3rd tier.

Sheff W v Sheff U is the record attendance for the 3rd tier - 49,309 in 1979.

Sunderland's records are "modern day" records. If you go back to the 30's and post-war period, crowds in all divisions were at an all time high.
Was that because streaming ovver t'interweb were a bit new.

Great performance overall against a team that really could have caused us problems as they have with others this season.

A few shaky moments and a couple of players that didn’t have their best game but to score 3 and more importantly keep a clean sheet was fantastic.

Keep the pressure on the tarquins and they’ll shit the bed at some point.
Think they started to change the sheets yesterday

Nowhere near that number, their last 3rd division attendances are pretty clear.

If that table is accurate, they seem to hardly ever sell out. Would that be true @Stockport mackem?

Bobb hasn't set the world on fire with the minutes he's had this season so understand him not featuring.
Although Savio has equally been poor so doesn't deserve the minutes he gets.
I think Bobb's done OK, we haven't seen what he can really do yet but he's another that will emerge.
Don't know what to make of Savinho, he has the talent, maybe he has other issues at the moment.

I don't think we had any shaky moments really. OK the mistake from Diaz, it happens but other teams are always going to get chances no matter how good you are.

Look at the fan videos on Youtube if you want to see how much they're bottling it. Heads are starting to go already.

Please don't hate on me here, you have probably read it the facts wrong somewhere but sunderland averaged 30,800 in their last season in league 1 matey and 32,000 in 18/19 which they hold the record for highest attendance in that division.
Always liked Sunderland fans , never come across as entitled. Gave the rags shit when Aguero scored against QPR and they were sound at Wembley a few seasons ago .
