Sunderland post match thread

Asking Clichy and Sagna to do the things that Alaba and Lahm did for him at Bayern might be a stretch. Surely Zabaleta would be more comfortable than Sagna seeing so much of the ball in central positions?

Probably for the best that we played a well-organized, disciplined team that we struggled to breakdown as our first game, it's a good insight into how a lot of teams will set up to frustrate us and Pep will be busy devising ways to break down teams that play so defensively against us.
I thought both full backs did well positionally in the new system, the main problem was their distribution, Clichy in particular made 3 poor passes in the second half in good attacking positions. Early days though and the nice thing is we'll get better as the season goes on and the players adapt.

yeah, it's nosebleed territory for them though isn't it? Perfectly capable of making the exact same passes in our half, but everything looks different in the final 3rd.
The more familiar they become, the more quality we will see - same goes for the ball-playing 'keepers.
