Sunderland post match thread

Take no notice of bluephil, he's grumpy cos all he had yesterday was a slice of cold pizza.
Met a few Mackems yesterday and had a good laugh on the way to the ground. Your goal was a cracker but that was about all the team did.
Good luck for the rest of the season.
It's true. Meant no offense to any makems, was just hungry and slightly tipsy. I'm still irrationally angry that they always beat us at the Stadium of Light as well :P Before the take over I used to celebrate goals against Bolton like we had won a cup final so I have no room to talk.

I thought that was really nervy yesterday in the end .At times it felt like a cup game. I got confused early on with the movement of the fullbacks in to midfield but trust in Pep and good to see some innovation with the formation. Was really impressed with Stones debut and pleased to see Sterling beginning to play with some confidence. Felt we lacked a cutting edge up front but I am sure that will come in time. Sunderland were really well organised in defence and we are going to need to learn to break these types of defences down quickly. Didn't see the selection of Caballero in front of Hart coming but I think we could have a Pep style keeper before the end of the transfer window.

Anyone got a link to the official attendance?

and it was 99 percent full! spoke to the ticket office and they were pleased with the use of ticket exchange. all the stick about it not selling out (which it did!) was because the club promoted open / general sale to try and get people to keep buying from the exchange system. 54k plus people was fantastic in mid August.

The full backs pushing into midfield was to outnumber there players in there which was 6 at times u won't see that every week! Also kolarov will not play cb many times only in emergencies but fernandinhio just might do! Kdb looked way off the pace but silva 1st half new exactly how to play in his role and ran the show before running out of gas. Seemed a real team togethernes on the pitch and that only bodes well for the rest of the season! Will be intresting to see who drops out for sane and gudongan but I imagine the front 6 will be rotated on a regular basis! 3 points which we deserved roll on september with a fully fit squad and players knowing peps way of thinking!

Even if I would've been disappointed with a 1-1 draw yesterday, I still would've been happy with what I saw. Now we got 3 points and this team will only get better.

It's quite clear why Pep's teams don't concede much, our defensive setup (apart from the goal) looked a lot better compared to last year. The fact that we kept possession when Willy played it short tired Sunderland as well. Really impressed by Stones calm and composure, and very good on the ball as well. Football-wise, I think we're having a new Kompany in the making there, although it's early days yet.

Passed the ball very well. I thought half the team were brilliant and half the team looked very unfit.

After 30minutes our intensity dropped after a great start. A few looked very undercooked. Still kept the ball well due to formations and the fitter players working incredibly hard. Clichy was everywhere! but he's had a full pre-season as well as Kolarov and Fernandinho and it really showed in contrast to some of the others who look like they're weeks off being fit yet.

Willy Stones Kolarov! Clichy! Fernandinho Sterling and Silva (before he got tired) were all excellent

Shit attendance again, its no wonder we get the crap we do from the media is it. Just a paltry 20, 000 more than anyone else yesterday.

it pisses me of some of the snide comments we get, im on holiday at the moment so could not be there, I watched it on Bein sports and as the second half started they said that half time lasts for 15 minutes but City fans must think it lasts for 20 minutes. As if we are the only fans not finishing our oint as the half gets under way.
why does no other club get this?

Glad you agree. Some idiots on here had written him off. First name on Pep's teamsheet trust me. Captain and then protected/saved for a key game Tuesday. Can Pep make it any clearer who he rates?
Was never in doubt mate.

Aww, don't be like that. Please. I thought our two respective fan bases had a good rapport ;-(. I am more than happy with having Manchester City FC as my second team. Your a club who has come from a bad time. You are self made. You haven't always been the club you are now. You weren't born with that silver spoon in your mouth. I can assure you we won't score many goals this season. We have to take any tiny morsel of success when it happens. Moyes and the team hardly covered themselves in glory. This does not give me much confidence for the rest of the season.

I wasn't there and only listened on the radio but that said I thought your keeper did well and the new signings of course seemed to gel well with more to come. Nolito was mentioned an awful lot in commentary so I assume he did well. Jesus Navas I thought caused us problems.
Why did you boo Sterling, mate?

Such an intriguing game with a formation nobody would have guessed.

We dominated throughout, yes there were issues (hardly surprising giving he's only been here 6 weeks) but when it clicks and everyone is fully fit it will be a joy to watch.

Sterling was outstanding on both wings. The idea of Sane on the other side will have other teams shitting themselves. Stones looked like he had been here for years. All in all an impressive start with much much more to come.

Absolute Rolls Royce of a player is Stones, really good debut with a left back playing at the heart of the defence. Kudos to Pep for looking at Kolorov and putting him in at centre half.

Sagna playing behind Aguero, how if your an opposition coach do you counteract that? We might see Kompany playing as a false 9 at some point this season.

There's a lot of work to be done but it looks really incouraging for the coming months. Sane and Gudonghan will be big additions to what we have and the prospect of the best youngster in South America to arrive in December will be exciting to see.

I think like most Blues yesterday I really enjoyed what we saw in application and discipline. We have lacked that for two years.

only managed to catch the first 20 minutes but I noticed silva and kdb playing next to each other in midfield. Silva on the left and kdb on the right, would've preferred to see them on the other sides as kdb has a fantastic right foot shot as he showed multiple times last season

Like I said I wasn't at the game but if the Sunderland fans did then I don't understand why they did it. I thought from listening to the game Sterling did good and was a threat. A team like ours is never going to live with someone of his level. Maybe it is his performances in the Euro's.

Tried to post this after the game yesterday but it didnt work.

Thought some of our passing out from the back and our build up play was outstanding yesterday. Just lacked a bit of real cutting edge with a couple of players obvioisly short of match practise (notably kdb and nolito).

Stones was immense and something that hasnt been noticed was his dominance in the air (though he was playing against defoe who is pretty short). Next to vinnie or even otto we are going to look more solid as i think defensively we werent tested that much snd when we were we were a bit jittery but with kompnany or otto back there plus with practise it will come.....

Attack wise just a bit rusty at times but the work ethic from the players and the pressing was phenominal. Worry a bit about kun and his hamstring doing all that but nothing can be done about that.

Sterling was outstanding and you can see that pep has given him confidence just to run at players again and not to worry if it doesnt come off.

Against better teams we will need to improve esp defensively but i think that will come with practise. Dihno was outstanding...all over the pitch. Sometimes collecting the ball between the two centre halves , closing down in midfield. The full backs pushing up and inside was very noteable which helped gain control of the midfield central area.

The amazing thing is that i think pep wont play like that every week and he will change it dependant upon who we are playing (hopefully) but there were some amazingly encouraging signs there from huge parts of the game
