Moysie is on 5 million quid an year. Sacking him, they'd have to pay him 25 million quid as compensation. Not bad for an incompetent nincompoop.
We didn't pay Mancini the £25 million his contract was worth, the contracts have get out clauses for the club, compensation would be had but nowhere near 5 years at £5 million
It would likely be one year's salary. There are other implications to consider as well, such as how quickly he finds another job.

Alternatively, winning the Capital One Cup or finishing 5th in the PL, or 6th if City win the COC and free up a EL place for the PL finishers. I think a EL place is all they can hope for this season. Fourth place, in competition with Liverpool, Everton, Spurs and Newcastle (and the top three) from where they currently are and how bad most of their team is must surely be beyond them.

Does a EL place go to a PL finisher if both teams in the FA Cup final qualify for European football via their final PL position?

To be safe, I'd like them to finish 8th!
I think the EL would be more of a hindrance than a blessing. Liverpool have made great progress this year without the EL distraction and may well qualify as a result. Though doesn't the EL winner get a CL place in the near future?

Thinking about it, Ryan Giggs had a good game for Sunderland yesterday. A good block for Januzaj's shot and scored a goal for them as well.

Yes it's swings and roundabouts. Being in the EL means some revenue and the opportunity to maintain the UEFA coefficient, which for United would collapse catastrophically if they are out for two years. On the other hand, it does mean the distraction of a lot of extra games and consequent fatigue and injuries for a team likely to get into, and do reasonably well in, the knockout stage.

I don't know what I truly wish for them, except that it involve continued confusion, infighting, disarray and comedy value.

Thinking about this - in between bouts of hysterical laughter - I think the United players are stitching him up.

Everton were a bloody resiliant side under Moyes, annoyingly so. Not great, but not bad and often did a number on us didn't they. They were much better than the dross coming from the swamp at the moment. But the swamp players are no worse than his Everton cronies. Marginally better in fact. And Moyes as a manager is not THAT bad. So why have the wheels fallen off so badly?

Seems to me the swamp players, in the main, really don't give a shit. I can only conclude that they didn't want him, have little or no respect for him and probably can't wait to see him gone. He's a dead man walking imho, and the only question in my mind is whether he will quit before he's sacked. One way or another I cannot see him being manager at the start of next season.
It's no different than what happened with us and Scolari or AVB. They players don't respect him, or have any confidence in his system. They just won't perform if they don't believe in him. That's why the decision to replace Ferguson with somebody with zero experience at a top club, with zero trophies to his name was so ludicrous. He could also be involved in an internal power struggle with some of the senior players who are especially vocal about their disapproval like Ferdinand or RVP.

He's lost the dressing room, if he ever had it to begin with. Nobody can come back from that, even Mourinho couldn't with Madrid.

Spot on mate. Agree with all of that. There's probably lots of reasons why he's lost the players' confidence - if he ever had it in the first place - but sacking all the backroom staff - many of whom will have been friendly with the players - won't have helped him.

Agree with you both. There are too many players at that club that are 100% institutionalised in the way of the Taggart; this was always going to be the problem after so long at the helm and I really think they all need a completely fresh start with some drastically altered expectations.

They have two choices as far as I'm concerned:

1. Sack him, bring in someone who will garner instant respect and try to piece things back together with the current squad and some big money signings. This approach might help stabilise things short term, but will probably bring them on to the same merry go round as everyone else, changing managers every 2-4 years.

2. Keep him and get rid of the old guard and those who've made it clear they don't want to play for him (Vidic, Ferdinand, Evra, Giggs, RVP etc). Then start again with the younger players and a mix of new hungry signings, with sights lowered to just pushing for the top 4 for the next few years and building up slowly over a longer period of time.

Wee Davey might just possibly get things right eventually if they take the second approach and back him to properly build his own squad in his own image without Taggart breathing over his shoulder every 5 minutes, but I don't think for one second that they're willing to move that slowly.

Instead it seems they expected him to instantly succeed with the same ageing rubbish that GPC over performed with, in which case they brought in someone who was wholly unsuitable for the task at hand, something we all spotted a mile off.

Just them dropping into pot 2 would be funny enough. Lost count of all the easy groups after easy groups. Let them get paired with Bayern or Real for a change.

is that next season though?
edit: it is sorry, but they're nowhere near good enough to win the el.

According to the BBC Vidic's agent says he's off in the summer.
That'll be Camelgob, Evra and Vidic then.
