Super Joey Hart?

I think we are judging Hart's pass in hindsight following Fernando's ball watching. Yes Otamendi was in a better and safer position to receive the ball, but seriously, I haven't played for 3 years but would have taken that ball from hart and laid it off to another blue shirt..it was a piece of piss, especially to someone supposed to be a professional footballer. Some people on here just have it in for Hart for whatever reason....distribution, won't catch, can't dive to his left, isn't a leader. He's an outstanding all-round keeper and best one-on-one stopper bar none...,,There's always a flavour of the month with the press regarding keepers...which is then picked up by others...it was shilton when i was growing up, now it's neuer, even though he always has a mistake in him, and now it's the obsession that keeper's have to be sweepers. If Hart has it in his hands he's perfectly capable of throwing it if a runner is available and if it's a short pass, then that's also not too difficult to work on with defenders in training, surely, don't need to spunk 20 million on a replacement.

Pl
He's clearly feeling the Pep heat, compelled to try and play out more from the back.

I had no issue with the pass to Fernando (the midfielder remember), he had plenty of time, and his technique is at fault.

Hart did likewise in the derby, however, passing to an unaware Demichelis, who under hit the pass pack, which resulted in Joe having to rush out and clear, injuring himself in the process.

Joe did little wrong last night and he kept his long punts to a minimum. Good to see him throwing out quickly a couple of times.

We have plenty of issues and money we need to throw at situations before Joe becomes the priority. Get who we need, and then if we still have money left, then push Joe with competition.
plus let's remember he saved a penalty....

Hart didn't make an error, that was made by Fernando. But I do think that Hart should not have made the pass. 40 minutes on the clock and City ahead. Take your time and play the ball long.

They were both to blame in my opinion.

Unfortunately, City are a one trick pony when it comes to goal kicks, aim for the right back (Sagna or Zaba) on the halfway line for the flick on, there endeth the lesson, sooo predictable its untrue, but, would have prevented a soft equaliser last night.

Tolmie honestly you got your inside info I just cant for the life of me seeing Joe going as you said for a long time. I honestly think Pep will keep him for the season and see how he operates. Hart is 1 of the leaders in a team that is lacking leaders and as you said there is more issues elsewhere that needs sorting first. I think getting the top 4 is a must for MP and for Peps greater plans we miss out his targets may just turn us down as were missing out on Champions League football. So who we get in and who we dont might go down to the last 3 games of the season. I honestly feel we will come in the top 3 never mind 4th but with the injuries we have its hard at times. Out of the players at the club who i think Pep can build a team around Joe , Kompany , Silva , Kun , KDB Nasri and Sterling and Nacho as of there age the rest would be fearful in the time Pep is at the club and there days will be numbered.

Have never said Joe was going, mate.

I have dug him out as a weak link, in terms of what Pep will want, and how teams play against us at present.

I agree, he will stick around next season, but he will definitely have to respond to a higher level if Stegen or someone comes in.

Fernando has come short for a reason, he's the midfielder, that's a deliberate tactic.

But watch it again, not so much the first touch, which is just horrible.

It's his panic to then kick the ball further towards Ibra's position in clearing. Ibra is still a half yard or so short, but Fernando still has that split-second to turn his body away from Ibra and shield the ball back towards the direction of the right-back position.

Technique malfunction, not Joe dope.

Hart's pass was a basic schoolboy error. Take a look at Barca playing the ball out. The goalie passes it out wide where the player receiving can see ahead and around. Playing it forward to a player who then has to be facing his own goal is asking for an interception.

It's also poor by the manager. It's something that should have been drilled. Something so simple it's almost stupid but it caught us out last night.

I'd always prefer to see the ball go wide but Hart to Nando to Ota could and should have worked.

Moving on to something else people like to bash Hart about: punching the ball. If in doubt punch it out is the rule. I saw Kaspar and Gomes discussing this on Goals on Sunday a few months back and they both said that it seems to be an English obsession that keeper should try and catch everything. I'm pretty sure they said that the current Premier League football is a very slippery beast that meant punching was very often the safest option or words to that effect.

I've played in goal a lot in the past and it is helpful to decide early whether to punch or catch so the important thing is to be decisive.

I never said you did say he was going either. I think the keepers we are looking at will cost crazy money to try and get them into the club. I just cant see Stegen coming next year. I feel with everything going on Joe is a good all round keeper. Passing wise with Pep type of teams he will get better at it. Also giving out a quick ball Joes throwing out is very good when he does this to set up quick counter attacks. You never know how we are going to do like everything and playing football we need the right midfielder to dictate play for us a modern Alonso. I think if Nasri had a bit more about him he could play that role but lacks the discipline at times to do it. I cant wait to see how Pep sorts it all out.

I agree with that line 'if in doubt punch it out' however it seems Hart has become obsessive about punching. That one that led to the penalty last night was easily catchable.

Good point about the quick throws in particular one peach in the second half out to Navas I think??

Last night's debacle is the exact reason why Pep is trying to get Ter Stegen. I love Joe with all my Hart but he has these brainfarts everytime he has the ball.
Ter Stegan would of made the same pass though.

This is how Pep will want to start from the back.

Don't think this is a get Joe day but rather an analysis of a particular incident which had and may still have important ramifications. I don't dispute that he is in general an outstanding keeper and is an integral part of the City Fabric but he does have issues. He just does not look comfortable with ball at feet and as has been pointed out earlier appears to have developed an obsession with punching. For what its worth I would be very reluctant to get rid of him considering that he probably still has a few years of improvement left in him.

Or Fernando could have just easily entered the penalty area to receive the ball in which case it would have meant Hart taking the goal kick again

Fernando could just have easily entered the penalty area to receive the ball in which case it's not allowed and would have rendered Hart taking the goal kick again, my question is, would Fernando have had the nous to be tactically aware of that option, we'll never know ;-)

The people blaming Hart are the same ones who moan he just lumps it forwrad. He cant win.

Absolutely not his fault, Fernandos touch and lack of awareness then was the issue. Fernando had a good game after though fair play play to him.

Brilliant penalty save to add to his list.

Another top performance in the big ;eague by Joe. He does love the CL doesnt he.(Needs to stop punching though and start catching)

Five seconds before the penalty was awarded "hart decided to Punch the ball out "wide when the easiest option was to catch the ball run to the edge of his box&hold onto it for another 6seconds!! (that would have resulted in no chance of the Psg team getting in our penalty area. The second goal any goalkeeper worth his salt would have caught that ball also!! The 1st goal was comical "at any level in football the golden rule is once you've scored is to keep it tight for5 mins" instead silly bollocks INVITED pressure on our defence by passing it out with undoutably 1of europes elite strikers loitering on our box(incidentally give zlatan them chances again &he,ll be walking away with the match ball)
