Plastic post, makes me sick tbh

Business my arse mate, we're a football club, always are, always have been.

Its not a plastic post mate. Fotball isn't a charty, its business. Without making a profit there would be no transfers, no ground, no club.

No matter how glassy eyed people want to look at football, we're customers who like to believe in our own heads, that we're a little bit more.

I'm a supporter.
That's how you view yourself, and that's fine. But the club views you as a customer.

Edited my post guys.

As DB said, the club do indeed view us as customers but the fans should never, ever view themselves as customers.

Pedantic I know, but I like my traditional talk ;)

-- Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:08 pm --

A business (also known as enterprise or firm) is an organization engaged in the trade of goods, services, or both to consumers

Yep. Strip it down. Manchester City Fooball Club provide an entertainment service to paying customers. And trades goods (merchandise) to anyone who wants to buy it.

Football is a sport, not an entertainment business.

I pay money to watch 2 teams battle it out...if you want entertainment, go to a circus where you expect to be entertained.

City are there to get the result what suits us, not entertain us.

Before we got taken over, no one would describe our own fans as 'customers'.

It's how it should be...let the club worry about the business side, we'll worry about buying season tickets and cheering on the team, like most SUPPORTERS should.
Disagree. If you tried to get into a game for free 5 years ago or today, you'd have been told the same thing. You have to pay.

"But i'm here to support my team, can't i just go in and give them the backing i feel they deserve?"

You know how that conversation would end. If we football fans really were 'supporters' then cash contributions would most likely be optional.

And I agree with that but YOU stated that we were going down a ballot route.

I explained why it is unlikely (ie the club want to maximise revenue from its fans as it is a business) and you start calling people's views plastic. Being able to see and understand the club's business model doesn't make anyone plastic or less vociferous as a supporter Liam.

I too long for the halcyon days of standing on the Kippax, the acrid smell of chips, stale booze and pipe smoke burning strong in the nostrils. Feeling as one with the club and players and knowing that there is a good chance you could be on the same bus home as several of the them. But those days are never going to return I am afraid and you will have to get used to CEO's such as ours sometimes calling loyalty points by another name or putting other schemes in place that reward money into the club as for them, it is a job and the club is a business.

I have to say, having supported City since I first went in 86, I have never felt closer to the club or thought that the club listened to, and tried to cater for, as many different groups of fans as they do now. Not all change is negative.

-- Mon Jul 04, 2011 12:22 pm --

Instead of 'we'll support you evermore', shall we sing 'we'll carry on to be paying customers evermore'?

Jesus, what's happening to the City I know?

Try calling us customers on the kippax back in the day...get laughed at.

Are you old enough to have ever stood in the Kippax?

Not in the terrace, no...but I used to sit in the seated Kippax :)

Fair Play, SWP, I was a bit drunk when I called your post plastic and I apologize.

I just don't like our own fans calling us shit like customers...call me pedantic all you like, but it's all about morals, and when you become customers instead of 'passionate supporters', something isn't right

You are all deducted 1000pts for talking about it....

Fuck me boys...I thought we'd agree to stop discussing loyalty points/superbia etc etc......

For what it is worth MCFC is a business and needs to increase revenue due to Platini and his stupid rules...If you agree or disagree with the points/superbia thing is personal choice. I for one will never slag a blue or the club for making sometimes what are undoubtedly hard decisions...

Some fans are never happy!

I ve gone platinum buy the way-now on 5350 pts!

Customer, A person or organization that buys goods or services from a store or other business.

We are supporters, but to the club, we are a customer.

Its a good job sky see it as an entertainment, or we would have no were near the same amount of revenue.

My turn not to be pedantic... but sport is entertainment. People watch sport for the same reason others watch Ballet whilst some as you suggest go to the circus.
