Supporting the Troops

Great gesture by Rangers it all helps giving our Armed Forces the recognition they deserve whatever that may be. I left Helmand province last week and I can tell you its probably the hardest, scariest experience ever bar nothing. This is on the same day Celtic have asked Falkirk that the minutes silence on the 08th Nov become a minutes applause I SHIT YOU NOT there is a time and a place for applause but Armastice day is definatly fucking not.

make it a minutes silence ... and hang them out to dry !! scum

The simple fact that these troops risk their life on active duties that our elected government choose to send them on should make them heroes in their own country. Regardless of where or who or why they are fighting. A simple gesture like this coupled with a bit of applause will do wonders for morale. - remember, one day they might be defending you on your own doorstep!

Just as long as they never get to make that request to a Prem League club for a league game ever!

Superb idea, perhaps our OSC running a fullscale bucket collection for them could be done aswell.
A bucket collection for injured soldiers I understand and would wholeheartedly support. But not sure why there should be a collection for fit men who have been paid to do a job.

... but what would they do with all those buckets? ......

Trust a 50yr old to think of that.:)
As for what Dub says,i was thinking more of the collection going to an injured soldiers charity or something like that, perhaps you can think of something along those lines ?

I also respect your view but all this 'it started on 9/11' business is a complete fabrication and ignores historical facts. The Wahibis were insensed that the US used the first Gulf War as an excuse to plant military bases by the oil fields in Saudi. Afghanistan then became a haven as the US had funded the Mujahideen to defeat the Soviet Army. If you care to go back further, you'll note the interference of the West with Muslim countries for centuries, and before that outright war [see the Battle of Tours in the seventh century]. After many millions of muslims fought for the Allies, many Muslim nations were then sold down the river after WWII, most notably the Palestinians and the Kashmiris. But, apparently, history only began on 9/11. Now that is news to me.

But the present and immediate danger stems from the attacks of 9/11. Or even years earlier, when Bin Laden's network attacked the USS Cole back in Oman.

Sooner or later, you have to deal in the now.

Otherwise, the African nation would still have every right to be at war with their slave British slave masters, Indians for other despicable acts.

Germans should not have to keep apologising for the deeds of their forefathers, and we, neither.

Since 9/11 we have also had Madrid and London, all originated from this region. Surely even the most sympathetic to the wrongdoings of Muslims, can now see the people we are currently fighting don't distinguish between blowing up an American or British soldier, or a peaceful Muslim in Pakistan.

I am always at a loss to hear British Muslims especially, citing the Palestinian problem.

Prior to the invasion of Iraq, I would argue they didn't give a shit, and couldn't even point it out on a map, let alone, the political chess board that was put in play from 1947.

Even in the wider region, and please flag me up if I am mistaken. But my own view is that the Middle East has all this money, yet, Palestinian people are left with the shitty end of the stick always.

Our soldiers should be at least given the means to defend themselves properly.

The Taliban fight, sometimes because they have nothing else to do! Their history has shown this to be the case. It's merely become a game to them of hide and seek to them.

Some interesting views but you yet again re-write history, my friend. The idea that Muslims didn't care about the Palestinians pre-9/11 only shows that it is YOU that didn't care about what happened to muslims before that time, but are now concerned that it is affecting your life. I remember, as many other muslims will, being hugely concerned at the on-going attempted genocide of Palestinians since WWII. The Arab-Israeli wars of the late 60s/early 70s were some of my earliest memories, probably at a time when you didn't even have a clue what Islam was. As for the Taleban, they are a recent political body. The Pathans, if that is what you mean, were ruling over the world's greatest civilization at the time [the Mughal Empire] when the reformation made Europe slink out of the dark ages. Your knowledge of history needs some work, my friend, then work on you perspective if you don't mind. Thank you for your co-operation and have a pleasant weekend.

If anyone wanted to carry out a bucket collection, the best way once you have approached the club is to contact Help for Heroes. They have their own web site and all the money they collect will go to help injured troops around the country.
I and a group of other troops raised £5,000 last year by cycling, rowing and running from Kabul in Afghan to Boscome Down in Wiltshire by covering the distance in the Gym on all the machines. 8,740,700 meters. I am sure a collection would be well recieved and I for one would assist, my only problem is I work 260 miles away but I do have contacts at H4Hs and could set up that part of it if someone else could arrange it at the club end. PM if interested.

Shouldn't this be in off topic? Anyhow I,m happy for serving troops to be allowed in for the scunny game for free. They are doing an amazing job out there and deserve our support.

Perhaps some thought to the hundreds of thousands of Civilian victims of the Heroic Allied Armies in Iraq would be appropriate?

It's certainly related to City & it's about City tickets etc so i'd say no,some have as usual tried to twist it into something else which is very sad but these days it's just a matter of time. The main gist of this thread is our fans & our club supporting our troops & that is it.

Yep, and it's a great idea. You get my vote ...

I think it would be a great gesture for serving troops to have free admission to a City game. Why not? Soldiers don't get enough respect in this country. A lot of blues in the forces miss out on a lot of games and troops miss out on a lot of social activities due to excercises and tours. And to those who jump on their high horse and say "oh they signed up to it and know what to expect" well just remember when your in your comfort of your warm homes with your family there are troops in a country far away fighting so we don't have to.
There were plenty of empty seats in the league cup fulham game, so I am sure empty seats or an allocation could be put to some good use. Show the troops City's respect and show them some good football!

Can I ask who is moderating this board at the moment? I have no problem with the thread, but with a PM I have received.

Please PM me. Thank you

Great gesture by Rangers

"Rangers Football Club has donated more than 1,200 tickets to members of the armed forces for its Champions League match against Unirea Urziceni at Ibrox.

The club made the gesture, worth about £50,000, after the Romanians decided not to take up their away allocation."

Would be great to see City make a similar gesture if Scunthorpe dont sell their allocation for the Carling Cup

its a fuckin pity they didn't make a similar gesture a few years ago to help with the clean up after the tramps wrecked manchester

There is no need for anyone to get all political in this thread, when all that is being discussed is a few dozen tickets to be given to a few latter day 'Tommy Atkins' who get paid 15k for working a 80+ hr week when away on OP's for 6 months at a time, as a show of support and appreciation.

Probably why I said most..........

I'd much rather see every fan buy a help for heroes wristband than see squaddies get a free ticket to the game.
No tickets no wristband what's the third option, what you are asking is impossible & you knew that before you posted it so what's your third option, simple question.

I fail to see why it would be impossible for people to buy H4H wristbands.....

However, the third option could be the one that includes people simply saying, well I wont try that its impossible.. Not one I would try myself but whatever floats your boat.
