Swansea (a) Post Match Thread

Think that is a couple of times you have used that phrase. Totally disingenuous imo. I think you know full well that supporters didn't turn against Pellegrini merely because of "a draw here and a defeat there."
As far as I can tell they didn't turn against Pellegrini at all most fans I've met at games have thought he' had done as much as he could and were looking forward to Pep replacing him, but turn against him, no not that I ever noticed and as an Etihad nomad I've sat in quite a few parts of the ground.

It wasn't a draw here and there. It was a consistent inability to beat any of the top 7 teams and a dogged insistence on playing some players who were consistently not delivering.
That's 12 games without a win. We lost 10 games and drew 9 - that's precisely half our games with dropped points. 15 points behind the leaders.
The fact that other teams also didn't do very well is cold comfort, it's still a large failing on our part.

We talk about injuries and CL presence, but that's precisely why we're supposed to have strength in depth. That strength in depth was demonstrably a myth this season as evidenced in the results.

I'm not blaming Pellegrini for it all, as a large number of players need to look at themselves for their part in events this season, but equally, he's the man at the helm and takes his fair percentage of the blame. Equally, by that reckoning, those above Pellegrini also need to take their share of responsibility too. If it's truly a collaborative effort from top to bottom, then we've failed in multiple areas and at multiple levels.
In many ways, I think a lot of fans had SOME sympathy for Pellegrini when they saw the level of commitment from some players. We might not like his tactics or seemingly favouritism towards some players, but we could also see that some players were strolling through games - for which there's no excuse.

Thankfully, things weren't as bad as they could have been and we can put this season down to an uninspiring one and move on, but if there's a repeat of it, we need to start looking further up the ladder for changes.

I didn't necessarily mean the support turned against him totally or even generally, just talking about those who did turn against him, whether that be a minority, majority or anything in between. I suppose it depends on your definition of "turn against" but certainly most supporters I know couldn't wait for his time to end, particularly over the last 6 months where even those I know who were very supportive of him got to the stage where they had had enough of him. At matches it felt odd to me for a lot of this season. Certainly plenty around me at home matches were happy to openly criticise him but I also think there has been a lot of indifference towards him and even relative indifference to what is going on on the pitch. My opinion is that much like he kept his job for an extra year due to the impending arrival of Pep, he also got away with a hell of a lot less grief from supporters than he wouldn't have done.

Great performance and the end of a great great manager. A very v
Second thoughts Barney?

I posted this in the Well done boss thread

Really sad ending to the best manager in our history, the best manager in the whole wide world over these past three years. A very very sad time to be a blue (in fact probably the saddest of my last 43 years supporting the club) tears in my eyes as I write this. He should never have been replaced and deserved another three year contract. We will all regret getting rid of him as he takes another premier league to the title and champions league history. No matter what happens in the future he will be remembered as greater than Mercer. God speed Manuel and I will never ever forgot you ever xx

A beautiful post. Brought a tear to my eye. What a sensitive man you are. God bless you sir, God bless.

I know the fans didn't turn against him.....I have been present when fans have turned against managers and players and trust me you know about it! From his appointment everyone knew he was keeping the seat warm for Pepe. In his first season we played some great football and won two trophies but we almost blew both of them. The cup final we were terrible for most of the game against Sunderland until two world class strikes in as many minutes got us out of jail. In the league we had stuttered badly until he changed the tactics to what most of the fans were crying out for. That change of tactics and Liverpool imploding under the pressure meant we won the league.

I would say the man's public lack of charisma and rapport with the fan's meant many were indifferent towards him. Everyone thinks he is a nice man and a gentleman, which is true, but we have been going steadily backward under his management for two years. With the investment in players he should have done better but some of the players need to take a look at themselves too.

I think he will do a decent job somewhere else but he isn't at the level where we want to go which is the top team in Europe.

we all have a right to question the whole squad manager coaches and signings and a poor finish to the season but that's it (your view) people don't have to like it but its fair and that's it. but when you cross the line and start to kick off with a different view that's when you show your true colours. a debate should be not to show your anger just a view

for me pellegrini should have been sacked before christmas and a caretaker manager take over until the summer. but that's my view and I understand the others who say he stays and did a good job that's a debate and something to read and take in and understand what others think it gives you a better chance to change your mind if you like
