Swansea fans

They held their own tonight, quality following (considering Monday+ on sky)

The fatty in the corner took the banter - why do we always get an overweight away fan in that corner?
is the seating more spacious there or something?

Good banter.

The matchday thread in their forum is good as well. If they can follow that tenacity and tempo up all season they will indeed give many teams a hard time.

Although he conceeded 4 goals ,the swans keeper is good...could have been more if not for him.. Hope this makes him stronger for them..

I thought they were very good last night. Their team deserve a lot of credit too for defending so well for an hour. That keeper played out of his skin. God knows what the kid must be thinking this morning!

Met a few of them in the Corner Shop before the game, really good to chat to and they hate United nearly as much as us. One of the guys even said they'd have more possession than us, which I was sceptical about to say the least, but fair play to him. They'll be fine this season I think, they have some good players, a good coach and I can see their ground being a bit of a fortress with their atmosphere, a bit like Stoke. Good luck to them.

Was chatting to a Dad and his two young sons on the way to the game on the match bus. As we approached the ground the two kids eyes lit up and he just turned round and said "Welcome to the big time kids". Thought there fans were great. All around the ground taking in the atmosphere. Full credit to them

Was a great day out, shame about the result but we managed to hold it to 0-0 with 60 minutes gone which I can't see many teams doing!!Our keeper was making his debut and looks awesome!! Fair play to you saw many fans before the game and I was near the segregation and many fans were wishing us well and clapping us which was nice of you. From that performance I'm sure we'll do well in the prem - we are not going to come up against a £38 million player every week!! I'm also glad to see you like the Scott Sinclair song haha. Look forward to welcoming you to Wales and hope it is a really good game again.

I think your club has a decent chance to stay up. I've heard several comparisons to Blackpool, but to be quite frank you didn't look comical defending like they do.

At half time there was quite a discussion going amongst City fans. Lots of frustration. Some saying we should be beating these, others saying Swansea are playing well, and this is a great night for them. No doubt you caused City problems, and then the goal changed the game.

From Swans point of view, I felt you passed the ball around really well with every player comfortable on the ball, however you didn't really carry a goal scoring threat.

You also look quite a lightweight team. There are some teams in the Premiership that are really big and aggressive. It's not just a challenge competing on a technical level, bit a challenge competing physically. You will know who I am referring to, but until you see them in front of you you might not appreciate what I am talking about

I think you were always going to struggle tonight, but your goal will be just to stay up. It is for every promoted club, and it was the same for City under Joe Royle and Keegan.

I can see you frustrating a lot of teams with your possession game, but you must score whilst you are on top. Your Cup Finals will be the winnable games at home but you also need to pick up a few points away to keep the pressure off, and to that you must get some penetration from your passing game. It was mostly sideways last night, and all that does is frustrate the opposition. Valuable but not as good as creating chances which terrify the opposition

On the debit side a lot of clubs will enjoy playing Swansea because you are not a physical threat, and you let teams play. And almost every team in the Premiership have special players who can hurt you. Swansea had a good possession game, but I didn't see the individual ability there to turn a promising situation into an attempt on goal. Premiership defences are a lot tougher to beat than Championship defences, and sometimes you need some individual ability to do something out of nothing to unlock a defence.

Good luck. beat the teams around you at home, and you will have a great season.

They also need hope and self belief that comes with a good start. That can sustain a team through the bad times. The promoted teams that have done well eg reading, Newcastle, Hull and even Blackpool are all those that got good starts that encouraged their players and supporters to believe that they could go anywhere and win, or get a result.

swansea strike me as a club who would of had many young lads following them, up for a decent drink etc but now i get the feeling they will sing the usual we support our local team, where were you... etc without realising the irony

Yeah we are better than Blackpool defensively. Holloway actually watched us (while we were under Martinez) when he was out of the game and based his game on us.

-- Tue Aug 16, 2011 3:20 pm --

Yeah I feel our team is too lightweight but it did serve us well last season and these players are used to how we play. Bring others in and it might take them a while to settle. We weren't very atttacking but we couldn't get the ball off you!! Our home form was good last season so hopefully it will be this season!!

Very true. They have a couple of key games coming up that will determine their season, but last night wasn't going to be one of them in my opinion. Despite the score, I think they played well, and I think that keeper will get them some points.

The sheep shaggers did themselves proud last night. Loads of abuse towards Bellamy as well which is always nice to see.

What irony? Why are you discussing what Swansea fans will sing to you lot at the swamp on a City forum? Why shouldn't Swansea fans be proud of supporting their local team, without following all the South Wales sheep on the coach to Trafford?
I met some Swans before and after the game and they were sound as. Proper football fans. Maybe because it was because it was a Monday night, but there didn't seem to be so many happy clappys as other newly promoted sides like Blackpool and Hull brought in the past
