Swearing

God I used to look forward to standing in the Kippax purely with the purpose of discharging my ire after a fookin hard week - the game´s been sanitised and ruined by pussies - football = industrial language fookin end of - take kids in the fookin family stand if you´re either naive or easily offended!

Firstly, my apologies for starting a new topic with so few posts under my belt.

I have a season ticket in the East stand and for the last few home matches the steward nearest too me has told me that someone near me has complained about my bad language on more than one occasion.

Now I know I shouldn't swear, but I don't think I do it any more than anyone else who sits near me. Also the person in question has not even spoken to me about it, nor has anyone else complained.

Last week for the cup match. The steward brought in a senior steward to ask me to tone it down, and I was informed that the complainer has asked for a full report to me made, for the stadium cameras to be on me & for me to be moved.

As I said earlier, I know I shouldn't swear, but I can't beleive that I am the only one out of thousands to swear at a football match.

I intend to reduce the level of my bad language, but the reason for the topic was to ask if there is anything that I can do to cover me with the club, as I feel that I am being singled out for doing something that quite a few people must do each week.
I sit in the Colin Bell and can hear you from there,

Your a fucking disgrace! ;)

I think swearing is very subjective. Firstly, it does all depend on who is sat near you. If you were somewhere else, there might not be any complaints, so to a certain extent, unless either you or they move, the situation will persist.

Secondly, if the steward does feel that you are swearing to excess, then you're going to have to take this advice on board and just accept that you are. If you don't think you swear more than anyone else but the steward does, then again you're going to have to accept that you are actually swearing more than anyone around you as it's them who are the independent witnesses to it. Perhaps it's a way of life for you and it's not something you think about but by the same token, it might be that the people who complain and who might have children are not used to it and are offended by it.

Also, don't forget that if you do swear to excess, you can get arrested for a public order offence too. So if you don't tone it down, you might end up lifted and be facing a night in the cells if you're drunk, or a fine if you're not.

What I would do, rather than be defending and justifying your swearing and looking for people who are like-minded and agree that swearing at football is big and clever, is to try and accept the criticism and see if you can curtail it a bit.

I suspect the reason that people don't approach you initially, is that they believe that they're going to get a mouthful and wanted to avoid any conflict. I had cause to report someone who sat near me a few years ago as they constantly called Anelka a lazy French ******, which I found unacceptable. I didn't see the point in telling him about it as I couldn't be arsed arguing with him, so I told the steward who then arranged for someone to sit near the guy and observe him, which they did. Sure enough he's was at it again and he received his warning. Then it stopped. I think the whole "Why couldn't they say something to me" scenario is not really a valid point. People want to avoid confrontation, and the best way of doing that is to just report any perceived wrongdoing to the appropriate authority.

Just one word and i'm not gonna harp on about it as its probably gettin'/got boring for some, but the word is 'Orwellian', o i and one more, 'Nightmare'.

its this attitude which to me explains why the east stand from 108 onwards is a sterile wastleland full of moaners and whingers who do nothing to help create an atmosphere. the majority just sit there all match giving it out to the players and telling people to sit down.

being offended by swearing at a football match + not even have the bottle to tell you to your face = gutless wimp

Sorry, but I wouldn't want you sitting near me. People around me are very vocal in supporting the team wihout resorting to 'foul' language. It is unnecessary and can't be justified under any circumstances.
