Swimming Thread

We have an indoor pool at home and I won’t get in unless it’s at least 28 degrees. A bit of a waste of time for me as I mostly float around on a Liverpool FC lilo which I got on a holiday in Greece a few years ago. My Mrs uses the pool a lot more than I do. She wears a harness with an elastic chord and just swims in the same direction for around an hour at a time until she gets bored. No idea what sort of distance she covers.

I know who I’ll be getting in touch with next time there’s a Covid lockdown!!

I made another trip to Hathersage Outdoor Pool this morning. Relatively quiet again today and managed to swim 100 × 30 metre lengths (3km).
It's amazing how quickly you can air dry in the poolside cubicles. Much more pleasant than those horrible humid leisure centre changing rooms where it's sometimes almost impossible to get dry!

On the subject of swimming
I have been renting out a property (an ex council house) on an estate in North Manchester and recently we evicted the tenants and are in the process of renovating to sell the property
We have been doing work in the back garden and discovered this little gem backing onto my property,in the garden of a house on a council estate in North Manchester/Bury area
Anyone else have a swimming pool in their garden
I would love one

I made a return to Manchester Aquatics Centre this morning and managed to swim 52 × 50m lengths (2600m).
Was nice and quiet again, but I think I managed to find the optimum quiet spot between the pre-work 9 to 5ers, the lazy students getting out of bed and the FOCs turning up on their free bus passes!

I returned to Nantwich Leisure Centre again this morning for another swim in the outdoor pool.
It was really quiet despite the sunny weather, so stayed in the "open swim" area rather than the roped off "lengths lane".
Managed 84 × 30.48m lengths which adds up to 2560.32m.

Back at the outdoor pool at Oasis Sports Centre in Covent Garden this morning. Managed 92 x 27.5m lengths which stacks up to 2530m.
Not sure if it's a London thing, but there were 3 old blokes who swam at the pace of turtles who thought it was a good idea to choose the medium rather than slow lane. Thankfully, the lane was wide enough for overtaking, but they never waited at the pool ends to give priority to faster swimmers and generally lacked any spatial awareness.
I'm not generally an angry chap, but I got a little bit of lane rage this morning!

Made a return to Manchester Aquatics Centre this morning and managed to complete 50 x 50m lengths.
Was relatively quiet again, but nearly had a head on collision with a random Chinese lad who was attempting to swim anti-clockwise when the lane was set up to be clockwise.

Wish i could do cold water swimming , too scary with a disability , i do cold weather walking in a summer dress instead , love a zero degrees early morning walk all winter

Good intuition ^...a weighted rucksack or ankle weights would top-up your method

Buoyancy belts arent to be sniffed at...they cock you like a float in the water so you dont have to worry about your upper body...running in the water with giant hurdling strides is then a doddle...or backwards egg-beater kick to really work hip range of motion.
