A brilliant and witty ditty !
Good luck to Swindon Town in the League.
Understand you have had a huge amount of issues with dodgy owners.
Also one of the Stretford Sheridan brothers (John ?) was recently your manager ?
One of my first away games (to see Cardiff City) was at the County Ground in the late 60's.
Great atmosphere...
This is a massive understatement. We almost went into oblivion before the season started.

We had a dodgy parasite called Lee Power (Tim Sherwood's best mate) who if many reports are to be believed, has been stripping cash from the club. There are still court cases outstanding as it seems he had a "gentleman's agreement" with Gareth Barry and his agent (against League rules) to carve up off the books transfer and sell-on fees received (and these amounted to millions, we have had some decent players in recent years).

All may be revealed in court but meanwhile, the parasite messed up in trying to do a bit of dodgy financial engineering, selling his shares to a mystery US company no-one had heard of. He didn't realise these shares first had to be offered at the same price to the minority shareholder - which was Clem Morfuni. He took up the offer. He's hailed almost as a Messiah - he's a top Aussie bloke. He's not even mentioned the Ashes.

This was just a couple of weeks before the season started. We had only 6 senior players contracted, no manager, with all sorts of debts outstanding - ground rent, wages, tax etc etc. There was (still is) a transfer embargo in place. Most supporters just hoped to survive this season but the new manager Ben Garner scraped together a squad and has implemented a possession, passing-style of football (a bit like Man City but without the goals or Jack Grealish's calves) that has delivered results beyond expectations. Realistically we kick on next season and anything before then is just a bonus.

And here’s me thinking Peter Swales was a ****.

Hi mate, I’ve not been to Swindon before so we thought we’d make a trip of it. I believe the Merlin is ok with away fans, are there any others that would be worth a visit?
The Merlin is welcoming to away fans. Better pubs in Old Town further up the hill but that leaves a longer walk to the ground (but easier parking). I've only lived in Wiltshire, not Swindon itself, and even that was many years ago so am not best placed to judge specific pubs.

Anyone driving and wanting a gentler experience to soaking up the raucous pre-match atmosphere in crowded town centre pubs might consider going a few miles outside into the countryside.

The Bakers Arms, in the village of Badbury (just half a mile off Jct. 15 of the M4) does a fantastic fish and chips and the ample girth of the landlord is testimony to good food across the board.

There's also the Blue Boar in Aldbourne, 6 miles south of Swindon. Classic country pub right on the village green. It's claim to fame is that it was the Junior Officers Mess of the US 101st Airborne Division that was stationed there in 1944. Lt. Dick Winters and the Band of Brothers - lots of photos and history on the walls.
