"One thing that I definitely don't want to do is get into how much other players earn at this football club.

"Obviously, I know there are players here who earn more than twice what I do. But that's not the issue for me.

Why bring it up if it's not the issue. Of course it's the issue.

OK, so when he says, "that's not the issue for me," he obviously means, "yeah. it's all about money,"

FAIL.
Why bring it up that people earn more than twice his wage?

Said he loves the club, said he wants to finish his career here, never said he wants more money. Everything you want to hear from a player.

Gave us years of great service, scoring great goals, won a player of the season award and has been a great player over the years with his goals, assists, dribbling, tackleing, tracking back, etc.

City were dieing and needed money, he left to better his career and at the same time help City out as we made £21M.

City then didn't need the money and SWP didn't quite work out at Chelsea, he had offers from a few clubs and chose to join us again after every single fan was praying he'd come back. This was before the takeover too which made it one of the best days for years to a lot of us.

He was in the top 5 best players for us last season, scoring some great goals and making a load too.

He's got 10 assists and 6 goals this season and has played well for the majority of the season until fans started to turn on him.

The first academy graduate, City through and through, never-say-die attitude, plays with the same passion we all would if we were on the pitch, admits his love for the club and the fans, the perfect player fans should love.

Adam Johnson comes in and plays well in some games and suddenly SWP is shit and not good enough. Now I rate Johnson highly and believe he should be starting on current form, but to just write Shauny off completely is a joke. SWP was better against Chelsea, AJ has been better against some opponents. I see Barca bringing Iniesta and Toure off the bench yesterday and I'm thinking what a squad to have. Yet it seems people on here think we should just have 11 starters and if you're off form you're suddenly not good enough for the team.

SWP wants to be our Giggs, yet just cos he's going through a bad patch, he's not good enough for a team fighting for 4th. Do people think O'Shea and Wes Brown are good enough for a team challenging the title? No, but they're good squad players just like what SWP can be.

Let's get behind the players that love this club and have given us some great moments in the past. Too many new fans for my liking.

Big hugs to you GMRR, couldnt have put it better, how people can just forget all the joy we have had watching Shaun is beyond me, and if people just believe in him i promise he will be back

No i'm not on a wind up (whatever one of those is)

I am simply trying to right a wrong. The majority of these boards (a fact i'd dispute) are coming from entirely the wrong place when they call SWP for wanting more money.
But if enough people say it it must be true right?

So unless someone is one hundred percent direct and spells it out, then you cannot read between the lines?

Jesus, first date with you must be exciting.

Correct. I asked for a quote not what you 'think'
Correct again. I like to deal in facts because reading between the lines and opinion do not constitute the truth.
You can twist it all you like but, and i'll say this loudly so's it might get through, HE HAS NOT ASKED FOR MORE MONEY.

If you wanna base your opinions on hearsay and conjecture then that's up to you. Once you start dissin' (see what i did there?) a City player who has, and still does, give his all for our club then i'll spend all day on the internet defending him.

I am a City fan.
when you and others slag off one of City's homegrown players then yes, i want a direct quote. Not what you think he means

Can anyone come up with a direct quote from any player, from any club at any time in the past, in which more money is demanded?

Not via an agent, not a planted story in the media, not implied or suggested but actual words from the mouth of the player, and on the record?

In view of this thread I'm just interested whether we'll find many. Or indeed any. You'd think it'd be easy, but maybe not, as I'd suggest that's not how it normally works.

SWP was my favourite player (look at my name) but he is being an arse.

I will believe you if you can find me 3 players directly quoted as wanting more pay in the last 10 years? Or do you not think a single player wanted more money in the last decade as it was not in a paper? Simplistic does not even start to cover it mate.

what proof do you have of this?

do you class him as being an arse because he wants a new contract if so that puts about 99.9% of all footballers that go for improved contracts an arse!

Milner when he was close to leaving Newcastle is the only one that comes to mind.

You will believe me about what exactly?

And i don't give a fuck about other players. They're not getting slagged from pillar to post off their own fans (but how about terry, tranny, arshavin, ballack, cole, g neville and etuhu)

i'm not suprised marwood and cook are blanking him after ian wrights comments about them. trying to undermine the club at a crucial stage of the season.

If it isn't about money then you can't just go mouthing off to the press if the club doesn't want to talk about extending a deal that still has almost 3 years left to run.

In short, it's about the money.

And that's why he has completely lost all respect from me. If he came out and said "Bridgey, Kolo and others are on £100k and I believe i'm on a similar level to them but getting just 60k", i'd buy that argument completely. We have a flawed wage structure and i'd feel the same way if it was me. But please save us the "I love this club" talk.

If this was another player at any other club City fans would be slagging them off to fuck. How many players have you heard come out & say they want more money? None is my guess, yet how many times do we know that money really is the issue? Just because he's "one of ours" people seem to lose all subjectivity. Can't have it both ways. Take off those tinted specs!

Why this statment from his Dad?
He signed before all the money came.
And how naive must you be to think that Shaun hadn't involved his father in what was going on?

Im not arsed if he's after more money the football he's playing is wank that dosent merit a pay rise or a extension on his exsisting contract. To me his peek was left on the Chelsea bench.

Even with him is there any direct quotes - I've not seen any despite googling it, all we have is the usual stuff but no direct quotes. Footballers and agents do not operate like this.

It's generally understood SWP wants a rise and this is just his and his advisors way of going about things, in time honoured fashion. Anyone wanting to see direct quotes before believing this will be in for a long wait, I'm afraid.

Does he have to say it?

He should earn his money on the pitch and he just isn't doing it.

You are wrong though, you cite the Sun article as a true demonstration of his current stance.

Yet, in same planted article, it states he is after a rise from £60,000 a week to £70,000 and five years.

The piece (SWP) also tries to justify that by flagging up what both Tevez and Ade earn.

I would suggest you at least accept that everything that came through in this article was sanctioned by SWP.

By the way, since that article, the club have again offered him terms which have been turned down.

The club will not give him five years, yet are willing to raise his monies.

Tolmie:

Was it Barton being directly quoted as asking for a pay rise though or were all the quotes from Willie Mackay?
