I love SWP. Heard about him when we got him as a teenager from Forest and was there for both his debut in the cup game against Burnley and league debut against Port Vale, where I remember him being about half the size of their central defender Anthony Gardener. He won us over that day. City fans always love to see a youngster coming through the ranks and back then any glimpse of quality was welcome amongst the dross we were putting up with week in week out.
Was gutted when we sold him but understood it was a necessity. Willed him to succeed at Chelsea but sadly it wasn't to be. We end up getting him back for less than we sold him which was a result but eventually as we got better he didn't, it started to frustrate fans, which was sad but it summed him up to me. A great player in a poor team who became a good player in a great team. I admire the way he refused to give up when people said he was too small and managed to forge a decent club and international career from the game. I used to compare his work rate and how hard he'd have to try and punch above his weight with Anelkas god given talent but arsey attitude.
I'll never forget the goal against Utd, it looked so good from where I saw it and also cost my dad hundreds of pounds as the goal wrecked his bet!
