SWP... Legend?

hes a legend to me and i will always remember him.

I've had this discussion with my dad about who he would class as legends over the last 15 years as he seen bell, lee summerbee etc.

i'm 23 so i would class swp, goater, horlock and dickov as legends. with honourable mentions for dunne and rosler. some people class players as legends if they've won something but the players above have put a lot into the club, saved us and kept us going which is why there legends to me.

Fantastic player, but never a city legend. when he went to Chelsea, any chance for him being a legend whent out of the window. ( i understand his choice though)

a legend for me. gave everything in every game, never hid, put in a shift home or away, took a lot of tackles that players twice his size couldn,t handle, and never ever complained.

Never once spoke badly of city, and as far as i know never a problem for any manager

The real joy of watching shaun wright phillips in his prime tho was that he was a very dangerous player and that gave you hope , as a city fan in the bad old days that maybe just one jinking run or shot from nowhere would lead to a goal.never afraid to shoot or try to beat his man, by pushing the ball past him or thru his legs and he was off..just what you wanted to see , a blue, terrorizing the home team and taking the fight to them.

looking back now i,d say he was a legend. fans identified with shaun and his struggle to become a professional football player..its hard enough to breakthrough anyway, but when your as small as shaun, and then get told that by your boss, it takes a lot to shrug your shoulders and come fighting back. thats what he did he worked his socks off for city, he totally understood what being a city fan was all about, never failed once to applaud the away fans at the shitty little grounds we had to go to, ..

derby day at the etihad a few years back and swp is kicked to fuck by utd players, all taking it in turns to tread on his ankle..each time he picks himself up, no moaning to the ref{mario take note) and just gets on with the game..its a derby match..its city v utd and he,s prepared to take that...a wonderful professional, a nice person to meet, an exciting player...swp is def a legend in my book.

This threads got me thinking as someone mentioned Richard Dunne, another favourite but again not a legend. Maybe it's an age thing as a lot of the younger posters have him as a legend and older ones don't.

I know for a fact that my younger siblings would class him as a legend and he was the main reason for two of them getting into city. I on the other hand wouldn't say he was.

Slightly off topic, I love this from Andy Morrison about the Goat...

Today, I look at Shaun's City career and compare it to my own and when I do I always come to the conclusion that he has the right to be called a club legend. By comparison I would fit more comfortably under the label of cult hero. I would play my part in the club's history but Shaun is ingrained in the very fabric of Manchester City FC, or at least that's the way I see it.
