SWP

i know ill get slated for this... but SWP is not the player he was...

very poor today and hasnt since his return beaten the man... he used to drift past players for fun, but he just doesnt seem able to do that anymore... maybe he is carrying an injury coz he does get kicked to bits but he is certainly not the player he was and i think he is one of many week links at present.

i may be slated for this as everyone loves shaun and i admit he's a star for me just not on currently form...

thoughts?
needs a rest

my thought exactly its almost like he has lost a bit of pace

like to see SWP playing on RW ... he was stifled by stoke's marking in the middle of the field. 90mins in his natural position and you'll see he's still the man

Terrible today. The few occasions he did get the ball he took about ten touches to get it under control and never looked like beating the man. Does need a rest methinks.
We should hijack United's attempt to buy Valencia from Wigan and offer an alternative right sided winger of genuine pace and quality to the squad.
Totally agree with this - He pops one ball after another into the box and it would strengthen our squad further.

SWP would run run barefoot over hot coals for City but constantly being kicked around the pitch is obviously taking its toll - both physically and mentally - his leg looked strapped yesterday and he is in need of a break.

I actually think that at his best he is pure quality and it is a compliment to his skills that the only tactic opposing teams have to stop him is to actually systematically kick the shit out of him but its not helping us at the moment and we need a quality stand in.

i just think all the kickings he's got have took it out of him.

maybe a couple of games rest would do him good.

I think he's only had a couple of decent games since he came back - but no one dare say this because its SWP. Why is this when people are prepared to slate Richards to the hills when hes a 20 year old and still learning, but when SWP , 28 and a regular England international has a bad game, fans seem to overlook this?

SWP has a place in fans hearts that MR does not have.

When SWP was a 20 year old he was playing in the City reserves and still learning. When he broke into the first team he played his heart out week in & week out and earned that place in peoples hearts by his attitude and committment.

MR does not display the same qualities as SWP - if he did then he would not come in for as much critisism as he does. His 'billy big bollocks' attitude does not endear people to forgive his mistakes or generally sloppy defensive performances.

He is also not living up to the hype that surrounded him when Sven renewed his contract - people expect world class performances from him.

Not from me pal...I totally agree.
I hope he's just carrying a knock or lacking a bit of confidence and that his form will come back.
Apart form his first game at Sunderland away, he's been very poor.
He was always capable of beating a couple of players but his passing let him down now and again...he use to make up for it by bagging a few decent goals.
Now, he seems to have lost the knack of beating an opponent and his passing is ten times worse.
Fingers crossed for the old SWP soon!!!

Unless I've missed a relevant post, no-one seems to be highlighting the accountability of the manager. It is MH's job to tell SWP to play on the wing, not that there's anyone to cross to at present. As for MR, he has only recently been returned to right back, where he should remain for the present.

In addition, in the modern game, players carry injuries, lose form [and then regain it] and can become outshone as the team they play for improves. Everyone is replacable, but usually only when a suitable replacement is available.

Until then, let's try to be positive. I will even grit my teeth and say that the manager is doing a good job in the circumstances. But then, if someone 'special' becomes available, say, in the summer...

He was meant to have been injured after the game against Forest for 5weeks but he was back in a week so I presume hes not fully fit. Although previous to that he wasnt playing great either.
