He still is a world beater m8, just unfortunate for him yesterday he was played out of his true position as most will agree with me.

Sorry mate but I did actually laugh at this
I do like SWP, but he is by no stretch of the imagination a world beater anymore. I even think Shrek is over rated. He'll be great against Algeria and Slovenia, then disappear again against world class opposition. England have some very good individuals, but as good as some of the individuals are, they're biggest weapon is the long, high ball to Crouch as the majority of teams just can't defend it. Therefore, Wimbledon tactics may well see England get to the semis, at least.

why do players seem to have their natural talent coached out of them in the english game?? i'm thinking swp at chelsea, joe cole for chelsea and england, rooney since euro 2004. they come into the national conciousness due to outstanding skills, then their managers, none of whom were world class players, coach them to take less risks, keep the ball, take sensible options, etc. then you get brazilians and argies who we all pur about and they display all what our players have as youngsters.
any premier league manager would sign messi, but would they then take the magic away??

England are not playing to Rooneys strengths though, remember Euro 2004 where Rooney was single handidly ripping teams apart and was so important to England that the other England players looked shell shocked and lost when he got injured in the quarters against Potugal?, thats the Rooney they need here and the only way that could happen is if they get the ball to him instead of hoofing it up to Heskey.

thought he played ok, but on what he has done this season i wouldnt have him there, nor walcott (right choice to leave out, pace but cant cross ball) lennon has same problem. a johnson should be there. can play on both wings, can cross the ball and he gaurantees free kicks / penalties

it was his world cup debut so im well chuffed for him, good job SWP may there be many more.

They'll be jizzing over him when he scores a goal, brought more to the game than Lennon even though on the wrong side of the pitch.

sadly he seems a bit one dimensional these days and doesn't beat his man often enough (neither did Lennon)

but I haven't given up on him
