SWP

SWP is a right winger, pure and simple.

He should have started ahead of Lennon on the right wing and I also agree that Johnson should have been taken along too.

His form's not been the best this season for City but he's not become a shit player over night.

Whether you put him on the right wing or the left, 9 times out of 10 with SWP the result is the same. He'll run into an opponent and lose possession.
Not saying this because he left Chelsea and went back to City, he's always been the same.

Think there is a large element of luck about SWP's game. Now and again he will go past a player, but most of the time he honestly doesn't look like he knows what he's trying to do himself.

As Lennon proved on Saturday, when he does the fullback for pace, 9 time out of 10 he hits a defender with the cross.

With SWP, whilst he's not the best crosser, he's a lot more productive than Lennon or Walcott. He can lose posession running into people, and has done too often for City this year, but when he's on top of his game, his quick feet and low centre of balance make him very difficult to defend against.

If you want pace, pick Linford Christie. He'd be as effective as Lennon or Walcott.

Watched the half-time summary last night and they showed SWP's "highlights".
He ran into opponents and lost the ball more times in one half than most players manage in their whole career.

It was painful to watch.

Like many of us, have been a SWP fan, but he's not good enough for our squad now. Ruthless maybe, but he needs to go in Jan - he will hardly play for us in the second half of the season and at his stage of career, for his own sake. Hope he doesn't just sit back and let the wages roll in until his contract is up - would like to see a bit more pride from him than that.

Going of yesterdays performance he just looks rusty thats all. If he could get a couple of games under his belt i think he would be much better.

I wouldn't write him off just yet

He has to be viewed in the context of the squad in any case

I really hope he rediscovers some form

Come on Shaunie

...wasn't very good was he?

Think Shawny in on dodgy ground to be honest - providing we could get a replacement or another creative midfield in i personally would let him go in January

Some players struggle when they don't get a regular run of games...it's hard for them to turn it on just like that. I think SWP is that kind of player. Adebayor is probably another. With games comes confidence and both plyers are confidence players.

There were momentary burst of fitness, and one particular sublime flick.

But it became clear his control and choices let him down.

For the first time last night, whether it be a trick of the light, he looked old for the first time.

His hair had a slight grey tinge and although we all get old, SWP was someone who I thought would defy at least that from an appearance perspective.

I wouldn't write Shauny off just yet. Still a long season and a lot of games ahead. He needs games but I don't think even he is claiming to be ahead of Silva, or even Johnson, any more. It's a squad game for us now. One decent performance could also build his confidence [we all need it], like it hopefully has for Manu.
