Sycamore Gap tree felled | Man in his 60s also arrested

Hopefully, some experts will attend to the tree and chamfer the stump, then seal it, thus preventing water causing possible rot.
It's not dead yet, but it's had one hell of a shock.
It's a bit like having your limbs chopped off, you can survive, but it's never a good day.
It will grow new shoots in the spring, several in fact.
These will be left to grow, for a few years, as trees like to fight back when pruned. These shoots will grow like mad, as the tree tries to survive.
Experts will then prune back the new shoots, leaving 2 or 3 that will form the new trunks. Best to have multi trunks just in case of die back etc..
It won't look the same, but it will survive us all if treated correctly.

It looked too close to the wall and could have caused it damage eventually. I had a tree dispute where a neighbour cut their neighbours tree down in typical 1950s semi-garden, so possibly a 60 year old tree. The perp cited roots damaging their property, the offended party went to the police and it was deemed a Civil matter, of course most thing like this are both Civil and Criminal but they were not interested.

They only resource stuff if press attention.

It's an ancient tree, it has no intention of causing damage to some wall that while has some historical value, amounts to a bit of a raised mound.
The wall, and the tree could have lived in harmony for another century or six, or more.
It wasn't threatening a roman mosaic or the pyramids, it was minding its own business.
It's not about neighbours, or disputes, or anything like that, it boils down to this.
Don't cut down a beautiful tree for no reason.
Or is that too much to ask..

Honest question is everyone outraged because a centuries old tree got cut down or that this particular centuries old tree got cut down?

Wondering if you will be camping out at Ryebank fields or demanding the arrest of MCC planing department anytine soon for the many centuries old trees felled to build 20 store glass eyesores across our landscape

What do you think?

Hardly a big mystery, that.

People are outraged because it is this tree. With good reason.
