Sycamore Gap tree felled | Man in his 60s also arrested

What point are you making here, that people don't have the right to be angry, or that their anger is misplaced?
The point was simple, and really not worth all these posts.
If this has really botherd someone and are incenced by it for this sole act fine amd very understandable, those that have faux outrage to go with the flow or they think they have tobe well then, be angry abput this but consider other ecovandalism

So a 60 yr is arrest. It was obviously not done by a 16yr old from the start. How anyone could think a 16yr old could have the skill set to do that I dont know.

Why it was done is anyone guess.
Any strong sixteen year farm hand would have been able to cut that tree down.

There is speculation that it might be a local farmer, angry at hundreds of tourists trampling over his land to view the tree.

Two people have already been arrested for it, a 16 year old and a 60 year old. I suspect the 16 year old is related to the 60 year old and that the 60 year old holds land nearby.

I've got no dog in this fight, because until I saw the news item, I had literally never heard of the Sycamore Gap Tree.
The point here, it seems to me, is that it is a much loved landmark. As such, it could be a lot of things. It happens to be a tree. And it has been destroyed.
I'm very, very concerned about what is happening in the Indonesian rainforests and of course the Amazon Basin, and have been for many years, because those places are the lung of the world. But to say “Oh, this is a tree like any other, why are you getting so upset about it?” is to miss the above point entirely.
When I worked in Regents Park (many years ago), Dutch Elm disease made it necessary to cut down quite a lot of the trees that lined the pathways in the park. Those trees had been there for people's entire lifetimes, were part of their daily walk, and a lot of people felt bad about it. Easily understandable.

Fair enough. And I get your wider conversation point.

It is not for me to judge the character of outrage, and other than my own and a few on here, I haven't been following that much of others' anger. There have been a few flippant dismissals of the whole thing here, and some poor attempts at whataboutery. Initially I read your post a bit like that. More as part of its context than in itself, but it is clear to me now that was not what you were doing.

Speculation where, out of interest?

When will the the 16yr old and 60yr old be strung up?

I have no idea if they are guilty or whether it's a proportionate punishment for the offence but it seems like the mob want it, so fuck it.
