I agree that the sentencing should be community service. I think a lot more sentencing should be to be honest.

4 years of unpaid service to the community and a curfew would have been better. Let them pick up rubbish, plant trees, improve green spaces, etc...

What a terrible waste of life.

We used to have instructions on how to cross the road and to my certain knowledge none of those involved reading a book whilst doing so. Not excusing Jonny thug from his driving but a teensy bit of care and attention to ones own safety may well have prevented this tragedy.

Also this has fuck all to do with someone cutting down a tree.

I'm off to my kipper now so please don't expect any response to the inevitable outrage this post will cause until the morning at least.

It has something to do with cutting down a tree in that they both are crimes and the sentences each received is a point worth debating. Just because you write "has fuck all to do with" doesn't make it so. Enjoy your sleep.

£50k a year to keep someone in prison. That's £400k total if these clowns both did the full 4 years. I'd just rather our tax was spent on something else.

And then every fucker and his dog would be screaming they should've got jail time and how there's no real punishment just a slap on the wrist.

You are correct in that there has been debate but I think my point stands as in they are separate crimes and thus not related re the sentencing, which was what has had a few getting a bit worked up about the disparity of length of incarceration.

Either way, a real shame that a kid lost her life so needlessly.

Very sad story.
However the CPS in its wisdom decided it didn’t meet the threshold for him to be charged with dangerous driving and he was only done for driving without due care and attention which has a lower sentence. So in this case it’s the charge not the sentence that seems wrong based on what the article says he was doing.
