Sycamore Gap tree felled | Man in his 60s also arrested

Wonder who paid him to do that, and why?
I'd be surprised if it's just a simple act of wanton vandalism.

It's a decent trek from the car park across very undulating terrain to get to it, so to lug a fair sized chainsaw to randomly cut down a tree, doesn't quite figure.

Of course it may be a local lad with a quad going across country, but in my mind there still had to be a reason behind it to go to all that trouble. It's not as though it's stood in the middle of the village square.

It’s on Hadrian’s wall. There is public access all the way along and it’s an incredibly popular walking route used by millions over the years. The tree in sycamore gap is one of the highlights that everyone wants to take a photo of.
I know where it is Saddleworth, been there, got the t-shirt and photos.

My point was regarding farmers and the public.

Sickening, pointless violence that serves no purpose and seems to have been planned out.

Awful.
Going out on a limb here but I doubt he was just wandering along, minding his own business, when he decided to whip out his Swiss army knife and hack the tree down on the spur of the moment. My guess is he already had the chainsaw with him. Just a hunch, like.
